Flood @ Orchard, Newton, Bukit Timah, Cantonment Road
-
Pity PUB staff.
They are put on standby over the weekend as thunders and showers are expected.
This is no doubt the gahmen's response to prevent further erosion of public confidence.
The recent floods did not occur in low lying areas. Minister Yaacob said that Orchard Road is a new \"hotspot\".
What gives?
Is there something too sensitive to mention in public?
Of the the three existing water agreements with Malaysia, the 1961 Agreement will expire in 2011 whereas the other two Agreements will expire in 2061. Gahmen has said it will become self-sufficent in water supply before then.
Now the gahmen also intends to 'artifically' boost the population to 6.5 mil on 700 sq m of land, thereby increasing the daily water requirements.
There are now 15 reservoirs with another two more to come.
Are the drainage systems being configured to drain mainly into these catchment areas to retain as much water as possible?
Are there choke points being created?
Has someone miscalculated the capacity of the drainage systems to handle heavy rainfalls?
It didn't happen before in Orchard Road for the last 50 years, why now?
PUB assigned the first flooding to a choked culvert in Tanglin and said this was rectified; it happened again within one month though to a lesser extent. What gives? :?
Is the gahmen/PUB buying time while the pieces are put in place to meet the water demands with the influx and population increase?
If so, why not say so?
If someone miscalculated and screw up, why not say so?

I guess we won't be able to know that.

Just take Romanian diplomat Ionescu's case, has he admitted??If someone miscalculated and screw up, why not say so?

Think of YOG, GE...maybe it's not so good to tell the truth now....We don't expect perfection, but hey, we do expect some reasonable answers.

Blobbi's comment that the water table might have been raised seems
to hv some validity.
2/3 of land area in S'pore will be used as water catchment areas.
S'pore needs more water to meet demands of population increase.
If water table is raised, and if the drainage systems are not efficient or under capacity, flooding can occur more easily.
The gahmen's words are intriguing vis
'it is impossible to be flood free'
'be prepared for floods when it rains, etc..
It's like saying but not quite saying it :?

sometimes we hv to raise these questions
n find answers for the good of our kids.
Shd they live on edge
everytime it rains in S'pore?
There are other wider implications
eg insurance -

Some roadwork has been going on on Prince of Wales Road and the next road leading to HWJC (can't recall the name now) for some time now causing traffic bottlenecks in the morning.
These workers actually make it easier for vehicles to exit onto Bukit Timah Rd in the mornings with their traffic direction :celebrate: -
Lucky they have the idea not to do these on a wkday… There are jams everywhere on fridays… The traffic at empress exit changes now and then, u go out in the morning like this, when u come back in the noon, another… Poor workers trying to complete the road works… Even have to wk in the rain and night…
