      VooVoo:
A stupid question - which is relatively \"easier\" to get into? PV or grassroots?

I think it depends. Some schools are notoriously picky about PVs and not only is it hard to get in, it's hard to complete the hours. Some schools don't even have a PV scheme.

Grassroots is not without its issues as well, with some forumers saying that after volunteering x number of months/years, they were still unable to become EMs to get the coveted PA letter.

So, it depends on the school you're targeting. Read through both PV and Community Leader threads and you should get a good idea what you should do in your situation. And it's always best to have a backup plan if you're targeting the superhot schools. These days, even living within 1km and registering in P2B is no guarantee.

I’ve read through Community Leaders forum. It’s not easy to go through grassroots mode either. For PV, not sure if the school will reject you if you apply early…

U mean to say easier by the grassroot way :?[/quote]and the grass is always greener on the other side

I think PV is more certain the GRL (in terms of qualifying. Balloting is a separate issue) - how to become EM ?

I think, ultimately, it depends on what the parents want for the kid. If the parents are set on just 1 particular school, then PV is the way, as even if you do not get in after 2B, you stand a better chance on waitlisting since the school already knows you as compared to another GRL on the waitlist.

However, if you want to play safe with a wider net, since you have a few more choices of school within the GRC, if things don't look good in 1 school, you have the choice to go to another school that has better odds of getting in.

Having said that, grassroot is not without risk too. Redrawing of the constituencies is one.

Yes Busymom everything involves risk... but as a human nature we try to find out the easier way out of the more complicated ways 😛
PV is less complicated in my opinion in that case. It's either you are selected or not selected as PV from the beginning. Grassroot... you don't really know the outcome until you have served for some time, by which time, it may be too late to explore other routes.

It take much more commitment to be a Community Leaders than a school PV. But one good advantage is u can apply to those super hot schools that don't accept PV.

Hi, I always read forums n conversations abt where to put their kids in for Pri Sch n should we do PV or should we join the grassroots. Singapore’s education systems is very good, salute to the gov. But the grading n PV thing is driving the parents mad! It used to be so easy tat we put our little ones jus at the pri sch beside our house cause we have privi n safety distance. Now, anyone from any locations as far as Jurong to Aljunied would like to put their kids there due to the grading which made it difficult for the locals to put their kids in their own neighbourhood javascript:emoticon(‘:x’). But have parents thought abt whether the kids can cope? Yes who doesnt wan their kids to be No.1 taught by the best teachers in the schools.

Maybe i shud put it this way, who made the grades in the school to make them ELITE. parents shud be able to do the maths themselves. If we do not provide a suitable ground for our child to grow, the future 6 years in that pri sch will be a nightmare for the kids, as well as the parents. I do hope that parents be fair to our future leaders, guide them in a way that they feel comfortable but not pressurized as in this present time, there is already enough peers pressure…
last but not least, good luck to all the kids who r promoting to pri 1 soon…
                    :x

Yes, and it doesn't stop after your kid is in school (unlike PV), or at least it is not meant to be.

there are parents who continue in their PV even after the kids have left school .....
