My DD not only talks back sometimes, but will throw temper tantrums too. Maybe it's the 'terrible two' stage. But in her good moods, she can be a darling!

But I'm quite strict with her, even though she's my only princess. I don't believe in sparing the rod and spoiling the child.

I do scold her when she did something wrong like being disobedient, rude to me or others, and when she throws tantrums for no acceptable reasons. And I do use the cane sometimes, believe it or not?! :spank:

Any mummies or daddies here use the cane on your only child too?

yes, i use the cane on her too..

but recently, just being stern with her and hit on the palm will send her in tears.. so seldom cane her.. but use cane as a threatening tool still works wonders..

I read somewhere that the only child usually will make up an imaginary friend to play with and talk to. It may sound spooky but I think it’s quite normal. Any parents have similar experience to share?

DS don't have an 'imaginary' friend but he used to talk to himself alot and aloud. For example, he would 'pretend' that he is having a battle with someone and produces the 'hee, huh' sound, with action all thrown in. He does that even when he's outside, not just at home, and he's oblivious to the stares people passing by gave him...Is that normal too?? :?

Am a mother to a 6-yr-old Girl :lol:

My DD does alot of pretend play too.
She loves to pretend to be in different scenarios, be a mother, or big sister or teacher etc etc.
And all these requires her to talk to herself or to whoever that's playing with her. So i wld think its normal.
But so far hv not heard of her mentioning abt \"a friend\" in one corner though

My ds is now in sec school. So confirm factory closed shop. As an only child, I find that ds lacks of fighting skills. No pressure from siblings, no need to compete, thus no need to excel :x . Because he doesn't have to fight for 'survival' eg. computer, tv time, and anything etc. Most important, parents' love. A lot of teachers say that he is such a wonderful boy and some don't believe that he is an only child. :? A teacher since P3 told me everytime she sees me that \"ds is a great boy\" . Our home is next to the school so I could still meet his primary school teachers. The only thing the teachers don't know is he argues more at home than in school. A few years ago, he won the Singa Gold Award. Dh and I asked him \"is it kelong one\".

I am in the same situation with you and dd quite similar except she has competition with classmates and friends.

Yes, I experienced this too when dd was young, about less than 6yo time. We would play along with her on the imaginary friend.
