I belongs to that normal doing category and my child was in this school with many rich families. This thought never come to my mind when I decided to put her there. Neither did I realised got such thing until when she was about P3. I overheard two kids comparing what type of cars their fathers had. Actually, everything was fine. A little comparasion here and there are unavoidable, just have to explain and make them understand, every family is different.

I also belong to normal doing category and my kids are in elite schools because these are our alma mater. No choice, Phase 2A1 on a platter just for us. Don't take, so wasted.

It's an eye opener even for me to see all these rich tai-tais driving lotus and ferrari sports cars to pick up/drop off their kids ... **ah, so envious** ... well, the kids have to learn there are some things we just can't have in life and we just have to be contented with whatever little we've got. Must learn to count our blessings mah. At the end of the day, if they perform well in school, they will be awarded the same recognition regardless of their family background. This is the good thing about meritocracy.

Haha I cannot imagine the kids start to compare on the hospitals.. my 3 kids are all from KKH too ! I had identical twins and the only twin specialist was at KKH. And I met a mummy who was also pregnant with identical twins, supposed to be following up at Mt A, but was referred to KKH instead.


On the day before her delivery at KKH(supposed to be a c-section), she received a phone call from KKH, they informed her to go to SGH for delivery instead, as they do not have enough wards for her. KKH always reserved the priority for their own KKH patients & those who are referred from other hospitals are considered as private patients.

And from what I understand too, even the babies whom are borne in other hospitals and if they need to be followed up for some other reasons, they will be referred back to KKH, which will also be considered as private rates!

Toking about comparing... i heard from a fren that in a popular all-girl school in a rich area -- apparently the primary school girls actually compare which hospital they were born in -- and if it is Raffles Hospital -- it is high class - and if it is KK - then - no class....

When i heard it, i was like -- err... my boys all KK kids leh!! Haha -- dont care lah -- but still kids been kids -- i think they might be 'hurt' -- but then hopefully boys dont compare such things!

In any case, will teach my kids how to retort back if he actually meet such situation. Hopefully he doesnt though.....

I discussed DS1's birth with someone and she was 'horrified' to hear I gave birth in KKH. well, to such ill informed persons, I can only pity her ignorance.

DS1 was born about same time as my friend's kids (Mt E). Based on comparison of charges, my KKH bill definitely does not 'lose' to hers (actually I was a bit dismayed why the same?).

AND prior to birth, I had heard horror stories about private hospitals that were not as equipped as KK in terms of facilities and subsequently of babies who developed problems becos of the lack of facilities. So I rather go low class, than have chance that my kids are deprived of necessary medical equipment.

No regrets there. In fact, I quite regret giving birth to my 2nd in Mt E (gynae only operate there, it's a boh pian case).

I agree with you! The KKH bills are not much cheaper than private hospitals! I ever remembered KKH is def not the cheapest comparatively to other hospitals. And KKH is really well equipped.

I was guilty of that in my pri sch days too. I was from an elite sch and most parents who ferried their kids drove big continental cars. My dad was one of the few who drove a jap car. I was embarrassed and told him to let me off outside the sch gate. Guess what, he just continued to stop right in front of the pick-up/drop-off point where everyone was waiting.


I'm glad my dad did not listen to me. I will be sending my kid to my alma mater in a few yrs and I would do exactly the same thing if it happens to me.

KKH certainly does not lose out to private hospitals in obstetric equipment and care, and is clearly superior for managing post-birth complications for either mother or child.

Sometimes, I feel, its good to let the child has some disappointment. The urge of wanting but cannot afford. The feeling of others are better doing but we are not. Ultimately, its a lesson all have to learn, either young time at schooling or when at work. Its better to learn it early than when out to work, they would do all kinds of things to get what they crave for and want. Its also important to understand \"Life is unfair and things don't come easily\". When we are comparing with the better, our life seems unfair. But when we compare with the worse, who is fairer?

I do agree with this thinking. We, in SG are fortunate in that our society has progressed to this level. by a twist of fate, we could still be a 3rd world country struggling with poverty, and all other issues associated with such.

When there is no hunger, no need to do better, it's dangerous in that kids will not want to strive to the next level. I read all the stories about those who made it on their own...the common underlying thread is always the lack they experienced and thus the hunger to succeed.

Can tell me which towkaykia made it big on HIS OWN, with HIS MONEY and on HIS talent....don't tell me those who made it on their own but using daddy's money, or familial connections...that one don't count.

My girl was born in KKH, my boy in SGH. My SGH bill was a lot less than KKH, though both times I stayed at A1 room.

KKH has very bad service. I am very happy with SGH and highly recommend giving birth there.

I supposed SGH is also considered \"low-class\" But what matters is that both my baby and myself were taken care by good doctors and nurses, and I pay so much less $
