Extracted from Queenstown Primary School Thread..

I thought many involved in the balloting on Friday might like to have the below info on (2 slip/4 slip) balloting involving twins.

The only thing is I just wonder if this rule applies across the board or just in that particular school.. you might want to check with your school..

      Poohbear:
I was standing at the school for quite a while before i register since I couldnt really make up my mind... so took the chance to find out more from the staff 😄

From what i understand from the staff,

Single ID for twins means they are given 2 slips for a pair of twins. So 1 in, both in. If they had opt for an ID each for the twins, they would get 2 ID and 4 slips. But if 2 IDs, 1 in doesnt auto qualify the other to be in. So i guess both parents wanted to get the twins in same school.

If the 55th position goes to a pair of twins, then school has to open up 1 more place to make it 56 places. Else, its 55 places only 😞

Also, there are only 5 PRs in the group that is going for balloting. So its essentially a citizen vs citizen fight...
:thankyou: again for sharing the info Poohbear.

psst... mods, if you think this should be in the Balloting History Thread, please kindly move it.. TIA 😉

why parents staying within 1 km, dont consider requesting/appealing to school tmw not to ballot and accept all students provided registration no, exceed not more than 16 students

so each class probably to have 2 additional chairs.

children or the kids are being deprived of a place despite staying nearby. sigh ...
Just wondering example Nan Chiau Primary have 204 applying for 65 seats. Singaporean have 2 balloting chances, which means have to put in one by one calling out each individual students names total of 408 times. Then start balloting one by one till 65 numbers called. Am I right? :?

              Best of luck. 😄

Schools being deprived of students even thou there is dense population within 1km radius around it, and with many P1-going children.

Schools who are seeing overwhelming vacancies after P2C could be voicing out and appealing to MOE

Once the popular schools take in all the students, these \"unpopular\" schools will have disappointed principals/teachers seeing half filled classrooms.. it maybe your kids' school, it maybe another neighborhood school next to your kid's or your fren.

                  What can they do..? Unity.....

How many schools are not even half filled despite P2C is over..

parents who are attending the ballots should have one voice to appeal to schools.....

once balloting takes place, there will be disappointed parents. it may be u or the parent next to u or ur neighbour....or ur fren.

                  what can we do ...unity

how many schools going through balloting process for those staying within 1 km

Let’s face it… the MOE have more than enough vacancies to cater for All P1-going children. It is not as if the children doesn’t have a school to attend, or doesn’t have another school within 1km… which could be a stronger reason to appeal.

If exceeded by 1 or 2, it maybe still reasonable to appeal… but 16?? Does the school have the resources to cater to so many children? If they have, they would have opened up the no. of vacancies in the first place instead or expanding it after P2C.

Adding additional children more than what the school originally planned may have the effect of stressing the schools’s resources, and at the expense of other children the number of which the school had initially planned to take in.

Also, the MOE would have planning the total vacancy to meet the total no. of P1-going children for that year. If one school takes in more than the expected number, it implies that another school will take in less than the expected number. It will be resources wasted for the un-filled schools.

Popular schools will always have insufficient vacancies to meet the demand. There has to be a system to allocate these limited resources as fairly as possible, and balloting is 1 of them.

btw, my kid didn’t go to the 1st choice school. that school needs to ballot for <1km. I choose another school that is nearer instead for better chance. It’s a matter of handling expectations. if you can take risk, by all means go for it. if not, just settle for alternatives with better chances of success… You can’t change the fact that popular resources will always be in great demand and limited supply…

                    my 2cts… (^.^)

well, then where do we draw the line? today is 1, 2. tomorrow is 16, then 18. Isn't it strange that in aging estates near popular schools where one don't see many babies (or in fact one don't see many pp of child bearing age even), suddenly there is a huge upsurge of kids who are registering within 1km?

I think they do have to put their foot down somewhere. Parents go in knowing full well the risks they face (if they don't, then too bad).

Good luck to all balloting today

May all of us be contented and happy with the schools our kids get into. Even if it were not the 1st choice, I am sure we kiasuparents will give the best to our kids through other means and make them No. 1 wherever they are.
