One day I caught DD talking to her 'imaginary friend' and asked her who she was talking to. She said a name and pointed to a corner where she said her 'friend' was standing. Of cos there was no one there.

I read somewhere that the only child usually will make up an imaginary friend to play with and talk to. It may sound spooky but I think it's quite normal. Any parents have similar experience to share?
Yes, I experienced this too when dd was young, about less than 6yo time. We would play along with her on the imaginary friend.

        Hi hapydino,

My DD not only talks back sometimes, but will throw temper tantrums too. Maybe it's the 'terrible two' stage. But in her good moods, she can be a darling!

But I'm quite strict with her, even though she's my only princess. I don't believe in sparing the rod and spoiling the child. 😛

I do scold her when she did something wrong like being disobedient, rude to me or others, and when she throws tantrums for no acceptable reasons. And I do use the cane sometimes, believe it or not?! :spank:

Any mummies or daddies here use the cane on your only child too?
Hubby and I are believers of no cane policy, regardless its one child or many children.

As an only child myself, yes, I do remember often playing the big sister to my bunny soft toy when I was young. I used to pretend to talk to it and then reply myself. In a way, yes, it was sad that I had no siblings, no one to play with (my parents both worked), but I had the 100% love and attention from my parents and (maternal) grandparents (I was an only grandchild on my mother’s side) who were wonderful enough to give me the best of everything – school, violin, piano lessons (no tuition though).
So for me, being the only child is something that I really enjoy, despite the occasional loneliness and the empty (creepy) house when my parents were at work and I was alone all by myself in the house, when I was young.

I am very concerned about my dd. I am 44, my hubby 2 yrs older. We only have one child. I am very worried that when she grows up, she has noone to lean on to for financial/emotional support.

We have tried and tried (heehee, quite fun leh) but still no baby. Doctor says his sperms are inferior.
Dear all mommies, do you think I should adopt a child or leave it as it is?
Will appreciate if there is feedback! 😄

My personal preference is leave it as it is. If you are worried about financially, prepare more insurance. Emotional wise, as long as she can find a supportive husband or have close friends or cousins, I think its fine. I won't go for adoption for the reason you given.

To me, its more of a person's fate. Some have many siblings, also drift apart. 😄

DD has no \"imaginery friend\" but has a dear doll that she named and talks to as if it's her sibling. I guess that's quite norm for an only child. So no worries..Try to expose your kid to other children of same age. Personally going to childcare helps my DD alot as she has so many friends there so she doesn't appear lonely at all. At times she even says so good to have \"peace\" at home.

                      I am 36 with a 6yrs old boy only.

Same to songeeling, everywhere I go people will ask me to try another baby to accompany my only child.

I don’t know is it due to only child symptom, he always like to win when playing game

My girl also behave this way. Sometime she also likes to change the rule of the game.
