7 New IP schools

It's already mentioned it's for weaker students. Most likely it's to help students from normal technical streams from schools such as SUTD or even ITE get into polytechnic. Don't hope for too much.
Why have to be with JC in place, har? Can just extend another 2 years, wat. I know some of the schools had already planned it that way when they proposed their own IP programme to MOE years before.centraljava:
The natural candidates would be those organizations
that already have secondary AND JC in place
eg. Methodists, Catholic & Anglican among others.
i.e, we might see:
MGS
SJI, St. Nic's, Catholic High
St. Marg, St. Andrew's
Anderson

It's not so easy to just extend another two years. The schools have to prove to MOE that they are able to cope with the A level syllabus and have the proper personnel and physical insfrastructure in place. If it was that simple, schools like MGS and SJI would've gotten their IP status years ago. These schools have been trying for IP for many many years, and turned down time and time again. And they have natural JCs (ie CJC and ACJC) to IP to.

Unlkely. Remember IP schools that lead up to A levels are for the top few percent of students who are deemed to have been able to make it to JC regardless. Not all students in Commonwealth, Crescent and St Margarets fall under that category.other potentials :

There are so many CHIJ schools. Can you imagine if they are all part of the IP programme?CHS, SNG & SJI are all Catholic Schools.
Will they IP as one? They used to be neighbours and brother/Sister school when the schools were in Town.
So which JC will join them, CJC?
If CHS, SNG and SJI all IP to CJC, I don't think CJC will be able to cope with the massive intake. But yes, the Catholic link seems like the most natural progression to go. -

existing 11 IP schools, each has about 450 sec 1 intakes = 4950, against a cohort size of say 40,000, it is already 12.4%.......(ok, given NJC,NUSH may not be up to 450 yet)
this additional 7 IP schools could be the result of the outcry to have more people wanting to get into IP but did not get reduced weightage in MT hence lower t-score ............. -

I don't think MOE will change the tenet of IP to allow students who are not \"clearly University bound\" to partake in the IP programme. Of course with the success of the pioneer batch of IP students, MOE is more confident about opening up the opportunity to more students and hence the next level of top percentage of students will now be eligible. But they would still have to be clearly able and University bound. Hence they would still be selective about the standard of school and students selected for the programme.
UNLESS: For these new IP schools, not everyone in it will enjoy IP status. Only the top students will enjoy it while the rest progress on the O level route. -
Immediately my first comment to dd was \"you all better buck up & produce good A lvl results, 7 more IP schools competing\". I know its wrong to have this thinking but it just come tomy mind naturally lor. :oops:
And when PM mentioned they are not tring to make things tough for the young generation but preparing them for crises, dd was rolling eyes. :roll: -

When PM talked talked about 7 new IP schools last night, these schools came to my mind.
Methodist Girls School
St Nicholas
Catholic High
Victoria Secondary
Cedar Girls or Crescent Girls (maybe both)
These are the O level Band 1 schools with only express stream with proven good results.
I believe it will be schools that have no normal stream.
