my dd used to do well fm year 1 to 4. only this year she feel the stress and maybe class end at 5pm everyday, cm hm immediately she \"cheong\" hmwk n revision. can see she put in effort. i hv jus bought her other jcs exam paper, ask her to do comparison. now she preparg her year end promo exam n then later focus on PW for 'a' level submission which dateline in oct. heard fm her only 3 pupils exempted fm promo exam for whole level. ya PW submitted durg year 5, then begining of year 6 they will get to know their grades. Hmm she jus started doing the sch papers, let u know again.

I read abit about RV has infused every stage of the education the CID concept. It does sound very unique to me compare to all other schools. Afterall, the knowledge that we obtain during school time will only be a small portion of what we will require throughout our entire life. The attitude and skill of acquiring new knowledge and how to use them effectively, integrating new kmowledge together is higher order thinking skill which will benefit a person through his/her entire life.


Does anyone of you parents of RV sees strong difference in the way curriculum is being carried out? Does your child cultivate a better learning atiitude and the skill of higher order thinking?

I really have no idea how other IP schools programs are. I do know a little about DHS. I have heard from dd about CID in different topics. For chinese, its silk road. There are arts where they have to design and sew recycle dress. For sports, they need to go gym, to study how different muscles work. There are forensic science, Maths too but I am not very sure what they cover. Their working partners most of the time are from other classes. Its group work with presentation.

I can only say, lots of projects, group work, presentation and research not only in CID but all the other academic subjects too.

A very big challenge I observe, is working with different kind of classmates/schoolmates, not on the topics.

Thanks for your reply. That is why I think school culture is important. If there are many slackers with negative attitudes, there will not be positive synergy when students work together. Students can learn alot if there is positive chemistry. We all know that people cannot learn alot without interacting with others. That is why in graduate programme, we have professor as advisors and we need to do presentations and interacts with other researchers. That is the way to learn, the mode of positive learning to survive. The design of the RV's programme is \"Yong4 Xin1 Liang2 Ku3\".

One boy from RV has told me that they learn the CID right from sec 1 and it is very useful for their later years project research works. So far, I don't hear such unique, exciting course in other schools. It could be that they didn't manage to describe it clearly. I think RV has one of the most robust educational framework that it is a shame if it don't attract more better students in the future.

I heard even during earlier years when drafting the IP, even teachers benefit from the training and the infusion of such methodolgy and attitude. i am very positive about RV's programme. I am keenly looking forwards to hearing initial good news from RV and many successful years to come.

This is one of the article I read about CID and I recognise immediately that is the kind of knowledge one gets only during post graduate study with a good professor. The method to acquire and integrate knowledge and then use them. Students nowaday are very fortunate to enjoy such good education.

===The Construct, Integrate, Differentiate (CID) Programme
The Construct, Integrate, Differentiate (CID) Programme is an integrated curriculum that focuses on knowledge construction with differentiation features to cater to the diverse talents and interests of the students.

The CID Programme provides students with opportunities to construct their own learning by integrating knowledge from various disciplines, using modes of inquiry appropriate to the subject or project that they are working on. In the CID Programme, students spend their freed time constructively on inquiry-based and research-oriented project work. Teamwork is emphasised through collaborative and co-operative learning.[4]

After completing work in the Learning Clusters, they are ready to embark on new ventures. The CID Extended Learning is designed with the objectives of providing students with the opportunities to engage in individualised research in an area of strength.

All students must complete coursework in Research Methods and opt to undertake research in one of the following programmes: the Junior Scientists Programme, Innovators Programme, Mathematics Talent Programme and the Explorers Programme.

Students can also seek attachments at the local or overseas institutes for the CID Extended Learning.

The CID Extended Learning also provides students with the requisite ASK to undertake their Project Work in Year 5. They can also opt to study the new subject, \"Knowledge and Inquiry\" in Year 5 and 6.

Research Methods Course
The Research Methods Course is an extension of what the students have learnt in their Learning Clusters but in more depth and using the research method appropriate to the individualised research. Students will learn both quantitative and qualitative methods.

RVIP Symposium
After completion of their work, student will have opportunities to present their research findings at the RVIP Symposium held at the beginning of Year 5. The Symposium will also bring together distinguished speakers who will share on their work and challenges of research with the students.

Junior Scientist Programme
The Junior Scientists Programme provides students with opportunities to engage in further scientific research in an area of their choice. Students will learn advanced scientific research methods, especially in the biomedical sciences.

Innovators Programme
The Innovators Programme focuses on idea and product innovation. It seeks to further develop students' interest in the area of creativity in technopreneurship by honing their engineering and design skills in innovation related work.

Mathematics Talent Programme
Students who excel in Mathematics and are interested in pursuing more demanding coursework can join the Mathematics Talent Programme. Students will progress from Ancient Chinese, Greek, Russian and Egyptian mathematics to modern European and American works on Abstract Algebra, Calculus, Logic and Engineering & Financial Mathematics.

Explorers Programme
The Explorers Programme is a wide-ranging programme that covers exploration into a student's research interests in the humanities, arts and languages. This Programme extends students' research interest developed from the Learning Clusters for Aesthetics and Language Arts, Humanities and Chinese. Students can opt to work on long-term projects with our local museums, the National Archives, performing arts groups or with the local universities. Opportunities for further learning are provided through overseas exchange programmes in China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.[5]

One boy from RV has told me that they learn the CID right from sec 1 and it is very useful for their later years project research works.

Yes they started CID from year 1.

All these research, presentation .... can be quite a challenge for year 1 students in the beginning. But slowly, after 6 months or 1 year, they are getting better. After presentation, not only the teachers would give comments, the fellow mates are acting like \"judges\" too. Even non-graded subjects (eg. Dance, Arts, Music, Malay) also have to spend a lot of time on project work but it can be very interesting and fun. All these projects if not properly done, can be rejected and have to re-do. So far, I see they take all these projects seriously, regardless graded or non graded.

I guess, all these skills would come in handy when they start doing their A lvl PW.

Maybe parents of higher lvl can comment on that.
