      1. Give assurance to parents and child that the child is university material after PSLE? - Hhmm … can say that lah, but there are kids who after a few years in IP, realised thats not what they want. Prefer more hands more way of study and transfer to Poly.

      2. Accelerate learning in Sec school because no need to prepare for 'O" levels? - Not accelerate learning but no need to go through another exam stress in Sec 4. Nobody like exam stress, the kids or parents. Hahaha …

      3. No need to worry about not getting into a JC of choice? Otherwise runs the risk of writing to forum and be laughed at? - If don’t do well in the IP schools, you can be asked to transfer out or repeat another year or … But if the kids are doing averagely fine throughout, the chance of staying in the JC of choice is high.

What we like about IP approach - many researches, presentations, active and independent learning. Don’t get me wrong, the teachers do teach but in a different approach. More to stimulate the kids thinking and response skill.

        Dear ksi

I don’t know how to elecbrte more in this area but one thing I know (can’t remember source of information) is that about 70% (can be more) of the students in the JC stand a chance of entering the University. May be this is the reason cause parent like me hopes that our child is able go to the IP school. The 1st 11 IP School we may not stand a chance but with the additional 7 may be there is still a chance. Of course we cannot predict the future but this is the best now we can do.

          Vanilla Cake:

Hopefully as soon as possible as DD2 will be taking PSLE 2011. Read http://talkback.stomp.com.sg/forums/showthread.php?t=109575 in another forum. It's interesting to find out whether http://www.scgs.edu.sg/ is one of the 7 new IP schools chosen. Which JC would be the partner or whether they remain in an all-girls environment to continue year 5 and year 6 aka senior high/JC in the same school?

          Thanks.
          VC's mum

Same sex JC? may not be a good idea.

Why? Unique experience from P1 to JC2 in an all girls' school environment, isn't it great?

          When is the expected announcement?
          zeemimi:
Straits Times reported that will be tomorrow. Wed.
Quote from The Strait Times Tuesday, August 31 2010 Page B4

\"The list of new schools to offer the IP, a programme which to date has either the A levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) will be announced by the Ministry of Education tomorrow.\"

It's great news for the 7 new schools which will be joining to the original 11 schools for IP scheme. Hope that more new schools will be added to join these 18 IP schools in the near future. How about the http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/secondary-one-posting/files/sample-s1-option-form.pdf? Should the number of choices (currently capped at 6) be expanded to have more selection choices?

These schools will probably not be full IP schools; meaning they will offer both the O level and A level tracks. I suppose depending on how ready the schools are to implement the programme to existing students, the top students from the existing Sec 1 & 2 may have the opportunity to partake in IP dependent on their EYA results.

That would make sense. It has to be done progressively and will also take into consideration the current student population.

I wonder about the COP...will there be any changes becos some schools are alreay above 250 as it is.

I'm sure the COP for these schools will go up because an IP school is more appealing than a secondary school. However it would still depend on how attractive their IP offering is. Not just which JC they're linking up with, but also what will they be offering within their IP syllabus and programme. What will set them apart from other schools? All this will be very exciting to watch.[/quote]my take is that the COP of those schools will drop.

why ? because MOE cuts 10% of PSLE cohort to score 250 and above, hence in any year there will be more than 4000 with 250 and above, and with 18 IP schools = the intake will be much much more than 4000.....hence those below 250 will also get in.....

so it is back to supply and demand at the 18 schools, and I guess ksp will start a new thread to track and rank the COP of the 18 schools. I guess the top 4 will remain largely unmoved.....those just below the top 4 may see some changes as some students may now choose another IP school nearer home instead

Really? where do you get this news? If so then this year P6 pupils will be considered? I guess , with so manyIP programme now, probably all T-score 250 and above will be considered ...but first of all they must meet the COP of that school first. :dancing:
