Do note that if you did not start using the card at the entrance (some tolls, you will collect a ticket), you cannot use the card to pay when you exit. I had this embarassing moment that I ran out of money when I neared to the Kupang Exit. (from KL back to singapore) The lady refused to accept my Touch n Go card to pay the toll and insisted on cash only. I had RM50 in the card, but didn’t have any cash. So we had to beg the drivers in the cars to help change Sing money to RM. The toll lady said can use sin to pay, but the exchance rate will be 1:1. Luckily, we met a nice tour bus driver and he gave us RM100 for $50. (fair enough).

so dishonest! yeah, we also had our fair share of dishonesty. once, my passport had less than 6 months left of validity, and i dint realise until i was at the msian customs.

the officer said, i had to give him $50. I gave him RM$50, he said no. he wanted SGD$50. terrible.

I think it can be cheaper if you negoiate..they prefer to take the money than to book you. I only had one incident of this nature so far. Not for speeding but for crossing a faded double white line in the town of Malacca. The police was ambushing us and pops out the instant we (with a friend) cross the line. At that time, we didn't know the going rate and paid RM50 per car.

Anyway, try not to speed and fatten their wallet. 110km/h is already fast enough. If you break the law, this is in fact a win win situation. Imagine the trouble you would have to go to the police stations (which may be far away) to settle the fine. But I have some principled friends that die die wouldn't pay and want the ticket instead. After taking the ticket, i think they tear it away....hehe.

Wouldnt the TP have a carbon copy of the ticket? The fine would still be in their records, right?

Just to digress, I had this funny experience some years ago. I went into JB with my frens and my fren who is the driver got lost in one of the short cuts. He accidentally drove into a 1-way dirt road and we were stopped by a TP, who was \"resting\" among the trees at the road side. The conversation went like this

TP: What are you all doing? You are going against traffic! (actually the road was deserted but we are just suay to bump into the TP)

Driver: eh, we got lost and didnt know this is 1-way. Sorry sir, we will U-turn lah.

TP: No, you cant go. You Singaporeans are all like that. You think you can do anyhting here in JB. I am going to fine you!

Driver: Can we settle privately? (preparing to hand over passport with RM$50 clipped inside)

TP took the passport, peeped inside and scolded us again: Do you know bribing is illegal? You think you can bribe me with RM$50? You Singporeans think we are so cheap?! You all come here and anyhow spent money blah blah blah ...(went on for 5 mins) ...

All of us went :shock: and started thinking about jails. lol : No no, sir, we are here only to take dinner. We are not like the other rich Singaporeans. We come here to eat because the food is good and the people here are so friendly. We got lost because this road is so dark, could you tell us how to get back to the causeway?

TP: ok I will give you chance this time. Next time, you have to follow me to the station. I will lead the way and you follow me.

He handed back the passport and led us all the way to the causeway. We felt pretty good (like VIPs) with the outrider service amidst the curious stares along the way. However, it was only when we crossed over the causeway that my fren realized that the RM$50 note was not in his passport.

Duh ... oh well that wasnt technically a bribe, it was a fee for the outrider service and a lecture on how Singaporeans should behave in JB. :rotflmao:

Based on the only experience we had, they signal all the cars that were speeding one side. They came to talk to us politely first and didn't issue any ticket yet. If you pay, they will just help to signal you....

I am not sure about not paying after all the story of being stuck at custom,etc...?

This is common sense. Of course you use the same method to enter and exit the highway

I wonder whether any parents here will be driving up north to Malaysia - Malacca perhaps? Seafood Makan or Shopping? 2D1N do-able or too late now?

Or are you busy preparing SA1 with your kids?
