All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
-
Hi friends,
Does anyone has a recommendation of a patient and good piano teacher who can make a trip to the student’s house? Student is 7 years old now and had learnt piano but her current teacher stopped teaching. She is staying at Hougang Ave 10. Prefer to learn on Tuesday evenings.
Thanks… -
I am also looking around for a piano for my 8-yrs old. She has been using a Casio keyboard all these while and is moving into grade 2 soon. I am thinking of Hailun 125 as well. Any parents out there who owns a Hailun to provide some feedback? I have read the previous post but nothng much so far.

Hailun better or Pearl River better?
I oso thinking of getting a piano for my girl 5 yo. She was in Cristofori MLM till level 3A, since Jul just transfer her to indv class.
Went to the warehouse sale, most of the pianos are more than 5 yo, the price quite similar to a new Pearl River 121 of $3k, was thinking, should by a used / new one.
Are there any piano retailers in Sg for korea piano? Are korea pianos cheaper than made in China?
If the height is 121, able to last till grade 8??
Thanks -
Hi markfch,
I went to have a look at Yamaha U1 & U3 yesterday. The salesperson told me both are equally good for learning till grade 8, and U3's height is taller. Not too sure which one to get. Any advice?markfch:
From what I read in piano forums, U3 is definitely a very good piano. Yamaha is renowned for their consistency in quality. I'm learning on a U1 at YMC and quite like the sound of it. Though I must confess that I still prefer the sound of Kawai pianos more. U3 having a bigger soundboard, should give more oomps (more power).
But I'm not sure whether U3 has the sostenuto pedal, which is definitely needed at diploma level. A U3 cost > S$10K. If you're going to blow this amt on a piano, the trick is to find out all that you can before committing.
I'm still a novice. Could I recommend you this local guy called digitus08, he's a real piano connoisseur if ever there is such a word. His blog is here and he's very helpful ==> http://pianochronicles.wordpress.com/
Don't worry. He won't psycho you to buy a grand piano, and he's not related to any piano dealers

That's a tough one to call. A U3 cost $2k more than a U1. If I were the one buying for my ds to play, I'll bring him to try out both pianos and ask him to choose. If he can't decide, that means he couldn't tell the difference between the two, then obviously I'll take the cheaper one.Hi markfch,

You know there is a popular saying in pianoworld, which is 'You can't go wrong with a Yammie.' -

After my dd tried a U3, she immediately set her heart on U3 & none other pianos can entice her. At Kawai showroom, she even declare loudly 'I want U3'

thanks ! -
Hi sleepy & markfch,
Precisely! My DD only tried the U3 once & told me she likes that & when I asked her which she prefers, she says U3. I asked her what's the difference, she says U3 plays louder music & the feeling is different.sleepy:
