RE: Mooncakes and MIL

ah...my MIL is pretty nice to me (she gave me her collection of cutlery and dining ware for my new house :D), i had never bought mooncakes for her before; i had never bought anything for her before nor cook for her before. it is because i know she has 'higher/more exquisite tastes' and she may feel awkward receiving my gifts. so my way of showing concern is to make sure that my son call her every night and her son call her at least once a week.

and i don't buy mooncakes for my own mum too; cos she tends to give things away (ie when my sis bought mooncakes for her, my mum actually gave me some ).

My views can be overly strong for some, esp those who are meek and respectful in nature. It takes a \"i-dun-care\" attitude to pull it off and bulldoze through.

My colleague who's being bullied by her MIL keeps ranting about her MIL but never dares to say what she feels. By keeping silent, she's inviting more trouble as her MIL is testing her limits. No reaction = can irritate further

As I refused to visit my MIL with my dd, she decided to drop by unannounced one day then tried to carry dd. But dd started to cry and MIL commented that dd has a bad temper and loved to cry (unlike her fave grandson by her other son). I just took dd back and told her dd was alright until she came and dd didn't like \"strangers\". I know I am notti... but just can't stand there and watch dd being labeled a bad tempered kid by someone who doesn't even see her often.

Wow! I count myself lucky so far. Mil stays with me and helps me with most of the housework (changing bedsheets (mine!!), light mopping and sweeping etc).


Of cos there are still things that i have to do on a daily basis, (aka, the laundry, ironing etc.)

So far, no quarrels with her (after 3 yrs of staying together) and we all can get along quite ok. Maybe cos both of us generally quite chin chye!

My SILs and MIL don't know how to appreciate good mooncakes. They go for quantity in lieu of quality. I brought a $50 mooncakes (4 pcs in a box) for them once and they commented that the mooncakes tasted the same as those made by my MIL :!: My MIL's mooncakes have thick snowskin and taste below average. Therefore, I have stopped buying mooncakes for them ever since. My DH will just give his mother a $50 red packet instead. However this year we will be getting them mooncakes from Bengawan Solo as we need to clear some left over vouchers.....haha....guess what....my DH agree to my suggestion! I still have not decide what mooncakes to buy for my parent but will be something nice. Am I being bad? Who cares!!!

Since your MIL doesn't go for quality and willing to settle for anything, why don't you get her Bengawan Solo since hubby also agrees.
