      hi baong

Regarding about the MGO and UMF rating system equivalent, in short is as follows:

      Active 5+ = MGO™ 30
      UMF® 10 = MGO™ 100
      UMF® 16 = MGO™ 250
      UMF® 20 = MGO™ 400
      UMF® 25 = MGO™ 550

or u can refer to the links below for additional info

      Hi Augmum,

Thanks for the links and explanation. So now 2 camps are fighting, hmm dunno when there will be a good grading system so that consumers like us will benefit.

Collected my honey from Nature's Farm few days back. Looking at the receipt, realised that the deal was really not bad. Discount was 44% off from usual price. DH had slight flu for past 2 weeks, after taking the honey, felt much better. Should there be another sales in NF, will update here.

      Cheers

that's right, the usual price for the Guardian Brand MGO 100+ (liscensed from DFI) is at S$29.95

(but i was told that not every Guardian branches have stocked them)
Thanks for the recommendation (Augmum & LKVM).
I've bought a btl yesterday as my DS has been coughing for >a week (with phlegm).
🙏 he will get better soon.

Manuka honey is good for child. I feed my child 1/2 tsp whenever she has cough with phlegm. She gets better the next day.

Hi can I check...my usu understanding that if the kid takes something sweet, it will cause more phlegm.

Will taking manuka honey cause more phlegm for the coughing child? I'm keen to let my son try manuka honey too. He's been coughing for 2 weeks.

              Hi,

Was told by the doc that you can take manuka honey if it’s a dry cough. But if it’s accompanied by phlegm, best not to take cos’ he said phelgm will get stucked to the honey and whole thing becomes too thick to be coughed out.

That's what I thought too, by buying 2 bots of umf20+ recently again cos both kids have subborn phelgm. Usually i just buy umf10-15+. got lectured by the doc 😞 so stop the daily honey intake now. Will continue again once they r cleared of the phelgm. But can guarantee manuka honey super effective agst sore throat esp in the beginning stage 🙂

Just my personal experience with DS:

If I give the honey to DS when there is a hint of cough starting, it works miracles. This goes for sore throat as well.

But once the phlegm sets in, the honey doesn't seem effective.

So I am very attune to my DS and pay close attention when he starts coughing. I start asking him a lot of questions (to see if his classmates have been coughing, what did he eat etc ...) and try to ascertain the cause of that cough and act accordingly.

                    My 2 cents 😄

                        Just to share with you.

I usu give DS Bambec if the cough is bad. Twice a day for about 10 to 14 days and then he'll be ok.

Some time ago, he suffered from a very very bad cough with phlegm. I tried giving him honey but no effect because phlegm had already set in.

So I stopped and continued with Bambec which I usu give when he has cough and phlegm. But it still persisted. So in the end, bo pian I gave him antibiotics and the phlegm cleared.

This was one occasion when the cough really refused to go away.

After that, I have become very alert. Because personally if I can, I want to try to avoid medicating unnecesarily.

Then recently, while both DS (he was on Bambec) and I were recovering from cough/phlegm. I made the stewed pear (but I only add the lian zhi, too lazy to go to TCM to buy the chuan bei powder) and guess what, the next day I coughed up the phlegm and both of us recovered quite quickly after that.

                        Insider has contributed a recipe.

                        http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=23359#23359

During such times, I also stop giving him banana and yogurt and other dairy products. Don't know whether this helps because this is SOP in IL's house when a child suffers from this, so I just go along with them because they always remind me not to give and also check with me as well.

Anyway, at the end of the day, you know your child best mah .... so you assess and see how his phlegm is. Then you see if you want to try Insider's recipe or take him to a doctor.

I have just been introduced to Prospan, a cough medication for kids. Apparently its herbal, but I need to find out more about it, so I am afraid I cannot give you any more details.

                        Hope this helps ... 😄
