Can understand how you feel ๐Ÿ˜„ The greatest satisfaction of a mother is to see her child grow and taste the fruits of her own labour. Is she working very hard for the coming exam and is she very stressful now? How do you avoid adding to her stress?

I made sure I don't give her too much stress. In fact, she invited just 2 good friends to celebrate her birthday last wk. The 2 friends mentioned tt their parents have very high expectations of them - be top in sch or even top the psle! Huh!?! Realised and told dd tt her parents don't stress her - she should be thankful. She said she wished we stress her - so she got things to complain abt us! I know I'm far from perfect but it was good to hear tt she got nothing to complain abt us! - that's what I chose to believe ๐Ÿ™‚

As far as I'm concern, she's not working very hard - just doing work tt sch tr gives, which is tons. But I didn't bother to buy prelims paper for her and even with the soft copy from Mrs Wong, will not ask her to do too.

She has no tuition except for Berries.

For stress relieve, when she puts in the no. of hrs of work as agreed, she can do whatever she wants - usually reading books, play piano, drums (she discovered she could play the recorder using her piano books) or going online. Btw, she's a book worm and she rather read books than study. I stopped her from borrowing any more story books fro the sch but she received some for her birthday. We still keep our weekly swimming for exercise. No matter how they plead, still have to exercise - good for health. Told her she could only skip the Sunday b4 the Sc paper, since swimming ends late on Sunday.

Am also thinking of bringing her shopping this Fri when 2 younger ones having Chinese enrichment - but I'll leave it to her - to go or to stay at home.

My DS keep waking up in the night. I asked him why but he couldn't give me a reason. I asked whether he worries for his exam, he said no. Asked is it the room too warm or too cold, he said no. He said he just wake up for no reason. Any idea how I can help him to sleep well. I give him Chicken Essence everyday, scare he may feel tired during the day.

Maybe too much Chicken Essence, it's like coffee. I give my kids Chicken Essence only during exam weeks so that its effect will be greater. I feel that continuous consumption during normal time may cause the body to depend too much on it and thus losing its effect. Just my opinion.

Some kids are more egoistic and would not admit that they are worried, especially those hardworking ones. They don't want to talk about their study because of their pride. I have one kid like that, very hardworking and self-motivated. However, they don't take direct advice or suggestions; always thinking that we don't understand and they know best. What to do, I stop giving direct comments and can only give my support indirectly.

My ds is the one who asked for xtra lessons for Maths & Sci. I asked him if the xtra lessons will make him more stressful or will it boost up his confidence? He says as he is targeting on these 2 subj, the xtra lessons will boost up his confidence. On the other hand, the free tuition from my relative for his CL2 will further add on stress to him. So I decided to stop

the free tuition & insert 1 more session for his Maths & Sci.

As for chicken essence, he has been taking once a week since Jun. I'm still thinking if I shld increase to twice but I'm not very comfortable in changing his lifestyle at this critical moment. Afraid his body may not be able to take it.

He just told me tis morning that he woke up last night twice ard 1am & 3am. I'm also worried that he is too stressful but whenever I ask him to rest & relax, he will say this is the last week to zoom into his weak areas and he won't have a 2nd chance after the exam... Really heart pain to see him like this ๐Ÿ˜ข Spore education system is really cruel ๐Ÿ˜“

Your son is stressed, his mind still active, thinking of exams so can't sleep.

I only give chicken essence on exam day or weekends. I am afraid too much essence will be heaty as well as can't sleep at night.
hmmm...my boy doesn't seem stressed. And having spoken to other psle parents, it seems like they are more stressed by the moms' constant nagging than the actual exams!! ๐Ÿ˜›

As parents no matter how much anxiety, we must avoid nagging our kids. This is the last thing they need. Instead, it pays to encourage, motivate, emphatise and talk to them.

I have observed over the years that parents who remain cool, confident and communicate daily with their kids, the latter perform way above their parentsโ€™ expectations during PSLE. Two weeks prior to PSLE, kids should be ready. Prefably, they should finish their revision by 9.30pm and parents can take the opportunity to spend time with them for approx 30 mins to inquire about their readiness and always give encouragement.

Good diet, ample sleep are critical during this period. By 10pm, kids should retire. Before that, pray for increase wisdom to remove uneccessary carelessness and ability to understand difficult questions. Thereโ€™s no need to have even the slightest worries as kids are able to detect such signs which may hamper their performance. Remember is your kids actual performance over 4 days vs-a vs their entire cohort.

PSLE is fast becoming the replacement exam for 0-level as far as high ability pupils are concern. Over the last five years the performance of the entire cohort can best be summarised as follows(estimate):

                English A/A* 43-44.5%

                MT A/A* 80-81.2%

                Maths A/A* 43.5-45%

                Science A/A* 43-44.7%

Strength in EMS and reasonable grade for MT would enable a pupil to achieve T-score of 250 and above(Top 10%).

The above is my observation over the last several years which I hope would be benificial for parents in this forum.

Hi INNOVATE, please pardon my ignorance. Can you please explain how do I read the followings :

                        English A/A* 43-44.5%

                        MT A/A* 80-81.2%

                        Maths A/A* 43.5-45%

                        Science A/A* 43-44.7%

Does it mean the % of students getting A/A* is 80~81.2% of the cohort? :?
