Hi all, I've called chinese bridge. They sell the Qiao Hu dvd in a learning kit, $29.90 for the kit. Each kit comes with some toys, book and a dvd, and it covers 8-10 units (i.e. themes/topics i think).

The lady I spoke to was v helpful but her explanation was all in chinese, so this is the info I managed to get with my 'koyak' chinese!

They have dif learning kits for age 3 to 6 yrs. The school is at Jurong East, but they can also deliver to Crestar branches becos they provide the Chinese enrichment at Crestar. So if u're keen to order, u can call Jade 66657558.
Hi Fuzz, Glad that you got the info d.
Last Saturday i went to the Chinese Brige and talked to Jade (she is the school head), like what you said, she told me that they have licensed programmes at Marine Parade, Hougang and Serangoon. So you can actually contact her and ask her to send the learning kits to these centres. I think it would be much more convenient for those who stay far from JE.

Btw, i found some video in YouTube, hope that it helps 😃

there are 2 Chinese classic cartoons that are of very good quality on youtube. Probably need some streaming but worthwhile to check it out.

          1) 三国演义 - Romance of the three kingdoms.

          2) 西游记 Journey to the west
          http://www.youtube.com/user/MikoMew851#p/u/140/hQhVSt07Ly8

I am not sure if the DVDs are available in Singapore. Has anybody seen these before?

Thanks jemlth!! I had a quick look at the links. They look v engaging! But seems quite adult and rather 'cheem'! Even I'm quite lost! I think maybe understand only half of the dialogue... 😞

Hi, you may consider to get a set of Romance Of The Three Kingdoms (10 books) which come in comic form and one 三国演义 in CL. DD read it last year and now when she watches the 三国 (acted by those China actor and actress) show it will be much easier to understand. Hope this info. useful.[/quote]Hi, yes it's true that the 三国 storyline is a lot more complex. Did you get the set in Singapore? Haha, for now, I will enjoy them myself.

Anyway, I checked out 喜羊羊 on youtube. A friend of mine told me it's very popular in China now. Have a good laugh! It's really funny. I am sure your kids will love it.

I checked out the xi yang yang youtube videos. Not bad, quite cute! But some of the characters speak quite fast and I find it sometimes hard to catch what they’re saying.

I let my boy watch and he didn’t seem to follow the dialogue at all. Maybe it’s the strong chinese accent. But he was quite amused just by watching the cartoon and actually sat through till the end of the video. Which to me, is better than nothing! At least some exposure to chinese language!

What is this video about? Is it suitable for a 9 year old with average chinese grades?

He's turning 4 this Nov. He couldn't read the subtitles and I think he only understood a little bit of the dialogue. Yeah the accent is strong china accent and they speak quite fast. Even I had problems catching it sometimes!

The cartoon itself may be a bit too kiddy for 9 yr old, but I think the level of chinese is ok. I think its suitable for maybe 6 yr olds with ok chinese. it may also be simple enough for younger kids who are better in chinese than my boy!

I have a friend whose son is in ACS(Barker) and P4 this year. He enjoys this cartoon a lot. I like it because it has subtitles and it is not too difficult to follow. Think of it like the Chinese version of Tom and Jerry. It's always good to expose them to a variety of Chinese influence - be it reading, listening and watching.

And most of all, it's really quite funny! I am secretly watching them on youtube simply cos it's quite slapstick. Hur hur hur.

By the way, there's a very good article in 我报 yesterday about the benefits of reading pictorial books even if it's at an older age (upper Pri). it also shows revealing statistics about the difficulties that parents face when teaching Chinese at home. If anyone would like to read it, let me know, I will scan it and email you. 😄
