      I think the greatest danger of this episode is that if it turns out to be a non-event, WHO may be labelled as "the boy who cried wolf", and countries that have taken strong measures against pandemics may let down their guard and react slowly next time when another more virulent strain appears.

        I think Asian countries having gone through SARS in recent years will want to be extra careful. Maybe I am kiasi but I don’t think we over-react because sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry. While Mexico’s condition appears to be "stabilising", number of cases are still on the rise globally, so we should not let our guard down.

          insider:
          MLR, your child is not 'advised' to go to school after your husband returns. I really hate the use of the word 'advise' which creates much unhappiness among centre and parents at times since 'advise' is not compulsory...

          FROM MOH

          IMPORTANT NOTICE

          Child / Staff who fall under these categories should not return to the centre
          ======================
          • Display symptoms of influenza – Sudden onset of fever equal to or above 38o C and / or cough, malaise, chills, headaches and myalgia

          • Under Home Quarantine Order (including child living with persons under Home Quarantine Order)

          • Have travelled to countries and areas affected by Influenza A (H1N1) during the last 7 days

          Child / Staff who fall under this category are advised not to return to the centre
          ======================
          • Living under the same roof with persons who are under Home Quarantine Order

          • Has close contact with suspected or probable Influenza A (H1N1) patients
          We had informed DS's CCC about DH's travel. The principal's stand is that if DH came back sick (flu/cold symptoms) then DS has to stay home. I told DH that if he has the symptoms, he is to go straight to hospital instead of home. Can't be too careful, especially he is travelling to affected countries (thru US to Canada).

          He would be in hospital most of the time to spend last moments with his aunt. Don't know if that is a good or bad thing. Cos hospital is in high alert at the moment (which means extra, extra precaution), but its also the easiest place to catch any other viruses too. Me always think that hospital is the place where u can catch those super-bugs that are anti-biotics resistant and by the time doctors figure out what u got, u would be close to death or already dead. Me also not much faith in hospitals over there, heard and know some horrible things that can happen from friends that are in healthcare.

          Some may say me paranoid, but its bcos of what i know that is giving me the worries. But now, i m more settled, knowing that many that are down with the H1N1 Flu is recovering well with anti-viral treatments. 🙏 :xedfingers: for the best and DH come home healthy.

            My father is travelling to China for a short holiday this month. I wish to get him some N95 masks for precautionary purposes. Any idea where can I get them?

              Most places sold out. I managed to get some from fellow hardware company/supplier. Can try to call safety products company listed in Yellow Pages/Green Book.

                  The retail staff at guardian pharmacy said the masks can only be sold at hospitals now. Not sure if that is true.

                    I saw a bunch of N95s at NTUC Unity yesterday, though they were behind the counter.

                    I actually have a trip to Japan in mid-June. And the irony is that the Japanese ought to have more fear of us unhygienic Singaporeans than we of them. Wearing masks when one is sick, after all, is commonly practiced norm in Japan. And the Japanese are perhaps the most socially responsible people in the world, bar none.

                    So I have gone so far as to warn DW and DD that they absolutely cannot fall sick from now until then, otherwise, I bluffed the little girl, you won’t be allowed into Japan (her fave destination).

                      Ok, thanks. I will try buying from NTUC Unity. Hope that bunch doesn't belong to the staff......
