Right. No wonder Tam was saying that it tooks months for her ds to complete the series. And I was wondering how come ds was doing it so fast? Now I know. I took the short cut & made ds read it like a story book. Come to think of it, no wonder ds also likes to take short cuts when answering qns. Chip off the old block I guess :lol:

Thanks for sharing, comfy. So P3 will have more of such CL activities? I believe in a SAP Pri with HCL, their exposure in CL should be wide. My dd did a bookmark too to represent a storybook that they had read.

Yes, in my DD class, it seem so but I can't say for sure for other class. The other thing is that although there is much exposure to CL activities, the teaching method can be pretty boring. My DD shares that sometimes she can yawn many times during the CL lesson Sometimes I wonder why can't the teacher teaches the way the teacher from CL enrichment cerntre is teaching. It will be so much fun and interesting.

It is also tough on me. Will take discipline to complete it with her.
But with HCL base from school, I hope to quickly go thru with her.

I'm also using 四五快读 for my ds after strong recommendation from Tamarind. The only issue I find with this series is that they are not in story form, more like pages after pages of individual words. So if a kid is reluctant to read chinese initially, it would not be surprising to see the kid resist 四五快读 more.

四五快读 is a series of 7 books popularily used by PRC parents to teach their pre-schooling kids about CL reading. Hence the words 四五cos it's suppose to be for 4-5 yrs old kids.

Since locally our CL standard is nowhere as good, it's equivalent to our 8-9 yrs old standard. It is supposed to contain 80% of the common words that is used by children's storybooks. These books are not easy. Parents have to possess a basic standard of CL in order to teach their kids. At book 3, I have to resort to using the dictionary to learn a couple of the unfamiliar words (no hanyu pinyin).

My gut feel is that if a kid can master all the words in this series by P1, that means the foundation is strong and lower pri HCL will be a breeze. I can show you a few of these books this coming Sat if you're curious.
