It will be nice to classified these Maths questions into level so that it will easily visable for all as I am going through every pages to find the right questions for my P4 kid.This thread has benefitted so many PSLE students and parents. It will be most useful if such a thread continues to support Sec-1 Maths also.
I am sure all those who wrote PSLE this year will be glad to have such a thread next year also, as they pursue Sec-1. Does it already exist in this forum? Or will anyone be kind enough to start such a 'Sec-1 thread' soon?
Thanks and regards.

Help for my P4 please !
Kelly and Michelle bought 15 packs of cards altogether. There were 167 cards in each pack. If Kelly were to give Michelle 1243 cards, Michelle would have 4 times as many cards as she had. How many cards did Michelle have at first?
Thanks! -

Let Kelly = u
Michelle = 4u
u+4u = 15x167---> u = 3x167=501
Michelle in the beginning = 4x501 -1243 = 761

Thanks! Got it.

How do I solve this kind of questions?:
There are some apples in boxes A, B and C.
40% of the oranges in A is equal to 25% of the oranges in B.
50% of the oranges in B is equal to the number of oranges in C (100%).
Express the number of oranges in C to A as a fraction.
I know the answer, but when I solve it things get really complicated. Can someone give me a "fixed" way of solving it? Thanks. -

4/10 of A = 4/16 of B
1/2 of B = 2/2 of C
8/16 of B = 8/8 of C
C/A = 8/10 = 4/5 -

Hi,
It would have been perfect and easier to understand if highlight is added. -

Your idea is a very good one. But there is another thread in this forum covering P3/P4 Maths. Have you checked it out?
It is at: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149&highlight=maths

Hi,
I have a question on P5 Maths. Thanks in advance for helping.
Z had 70 more dresses than skirts. Z sold 3/4 of the dresses and 3/5 of the skirts. Z sold 126 more dresses than skirts. What fraction of the remaining clothes that Z had were skirts. -

Let Dresses = 20d, skirts = 20sHi,
I have a question on P5 Maths. Thanks in advance for helping.
Z had 70 more dresses than skirts. Z sold 3/4 of the dresses and 3/5 of the skirts. Z sold 126 more dresses than skirts. What fraction of the remaining clothes that Z had were skirts.
20d - 20s = 70-----> (1)
3/4 of Dresses = 15d; remaining = 5d
3/5 of skirts = 12s; remaining = 8s
15d - 12s = 126------> (2)
required fraction = 8s/(5d+8s)
from (1) an (2), we get
4d -4s = 14
5d - 4s = 42
so,
d = 42 - 14 = 28------------> 5d = 140
4s = 4d -14 = 112 - 14 = 98----> 8s = 196
8s/(5d+8s) = 196/(140+196) = 196/336 = 49/84
