      How do I solve this kind of questions?:

      There are some apples in boxes A, B and C.
      40% of the oranges in A is equal to 25% of the oranges in B.
      50% of the oranges in B is equal to the number of oranges in C (100%).
      Express the number of oranges in C to A as a fraction.

      I know the answer, but when I solve it things get really complicated. Can someone give me a "fixed" way of solving it? Thanks.

        4/10 of A = 1/4 of B
        4/10 of A = 4/16 of B

        1/2 of B = 2/2 of C
        8/16 of B = 8/8 of C

        C/A = 8/10 = 4/5

          Hi,

          It would have been perfect and easier to understand if highlight is added.

            It is at: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149&highlight=maths

              Hi,

              I have a question on P5 Maths. Thanks in advance for helping.
              Z had 70 more dresses than skirts. Z sold 3/4 of the dresses and 3/5 of the skirts. Z sold 126 more dresses than skirts. What fraction of the remaining clothes that Z had were skirts.

                Let Dresses = 20d, skirts = 20s

                20d - 20s = 70-----> (1)

                3/4 of Dresses = 15d; remaining = 5d
                3/5 of skirts = 12s; remaining = 8s

                15d - 12s = 126------> (2)

                required fraction = 8s/(5d+8s)

                from (1) an (2), we get

                4d -4s = 14
                5d - 4s = 42
                so,
                d = 42 - 14 = 28------------> 5d = 140
                4s = 4d -14 = 112 - 14 = 98----> 8s = 196

                8s/(5d+8s) = 196/(140+196) = 196/336 = 49/84

                    Hi

                    Please confirm underlined numbers.

                    If numbers are correct, then underlined sentence does not look logical.

                    Best wishes

                      Sorry, it should be Peter has 5 times as many as John.

                        Hi this is a p4 qn.

                        is it solvable? seems like lack of info to me

                        Mrs Lim bought 12 pears and 4 apples. Mrs Tan bought 12 apples and 4 pears.
                        Mrs Tan paid $1.60 less than Mrs Lim. How much did a pear cost ?
