How do I solve this kind of questions?:

There are some apples in boxes A, B and C.
40% of the oranges in A is equal to 25% of the oranges in B.
50% of the oranges in B is equal to the number of oranges in C (100%).
Express the number of oranges in C to A as a fraction.

I know the answer, but when I solve it things get really complicated. Can someone give me a \"fixed\" way of solving it? Thanks.

4/10 of A = 1/4 of B
4/10 of A = 4/16 of B
8/10 of A = 8/16 of B

1/2 of B = 2/2 of C
8/16 of B = 8/8 of C

C/A = 8/10 = 4/5

Let Dresses = 20d, skirts = 20s

20d - 20s = 70-----> (1)

3/4 of Dresses = 15d; remaining = 5d
3/5 of skirts = 12s; remaining = 8s

15d - 12s = 126------> (2)

required fraction = 8s/(5d+8s)

from (1) an (2), we get

4d -4s = 14
5d - 4s = 42
so,
d = 42 - 14 = 28------------> 5d = 140
4s = 4d -14 = 112 - 14 = 98----> 8s = 196


8s/(5d+8s) = 196/(140+196) = 196/336 = 49/84

In both scenarios, David’s number of stamps remains the same.

The difference between Peter and John is 4 units.

108 – 44 --- 64

4 units --- 64
1 unit --- 16

5 units --- 80

Peter has 80 stamps.
