$350k for 1 child?
-
Imagine you spend min. $5 on your kid daily. By the time, they reach 18yrs, you would have spent ~$350k on them :!:

Not really.
$5 x 365 days = $1,825
1,825 x 18 =$32,850
But $5 a day?
Really?
Abit too little no? -
LKVM:
Maybe she wanted to write 50 :?
Maybe lor.
'Cuz methinks $5 is too little per day no :? -
 Hahaha... paisei la, should be $50/day avg. out
From daily expenses, CC to High Sch. -

All parents should ask themselves:
Is this $350K a gift, OR A LOAN??? -
Muffins:
This is what I asked my mum and she said it's a GIFT for all her kids. We can return the gift by not forgetting to have dinner with her at least twice a month and calling her occasionally to update about ourselves. All parents should ask themselves:
Is this $350K a gift, OR A LOAN???
Even now that I've decided to upgrade myself, she has offered to pay for it.
In her words,\"我赚钱是给你们花。我收呢多钱做什么?钱拿去读书好,不是拿去乱花就可以了。\"
If you ask my ILs, they will tell you it's a LOAN. And they are not obligated to pay for their kids education. If the kids want to study, they should get a bank loan (FIL even said that he will not lend them the money even if he had the cash - which he has).
That's why ILs are mighty pissed at how much I'm spending on pre-school for my son (while they conveniently forget that my hubs attended NYK!).
Psst: If my mum really wants to calculate, my poor brother will have a hard time paying back his overseas education fees! Thankfully, I was on scholarship after O levels, all the way till I was working so mum had more money to let my bro study overseas without worry. -
It’s an investment in which the returns may not be in monetary terms. Yes, some may reap monetary returns when the kids grow up and support them. But the other returns on investments far outweigh monetary returns. Joy, pride, warmth, love, legacy. How much am I willing to invest for all these? As much as I can afford.

Wow, this is my first post but I must say that I am just here to read up about the $350k to raise a child but the posts here have humbled and stretched my thinking when considering about the in-laws and parents.
It is so heartening to read of different thoughts of experienced parents (mine is just on the way). -
