My DS is already 8 and he is having coughing with phlegm almost every night! He will start to have itchy eyes and nose too(sometimes even nose bleeding!). I have been giving him Zyrtec from pharmacy and it did sometimes stop all the symptoms. But I think keep giving him Zyrtec cannot solve the problem. We visited the Singapore Baby & Child in Glengeagle frequently when he was younger, but now I have gave up. The bills r too expensive and most importantly, it didn't cure him permanently. Can anyone help and advise on the treatment to the above mentioned. Thank you.

Oh no....yes me too i suffered this symptoms for 18 years !! before going to see a specialist in changi hospital (ear nose n throat) to remove my inflammed section of my nose due to the same symtoms your son is having. Most of the docs will just say flu, sinus etc... After prolonged running nose and block nose....i believe it will get inflamed...They insert a tube into my nose and somehow it can go any further...and once he remove it i started sneezing v badly....

As your Son if during the day he is only breathing on one side of the nose only if hes not on the medication?

Its probably due to sinus and than goodness u had zyrtec....i had nothing except for some expensive nasal sprays which imho was crap... u can also try clarinase....go malaysia pharmacy and get them

Sad to say its sinus we are allegic to dustmites big time....gd news after my operation.....sorta gone away...im 33 now and i do at times get the sneeze and just pop one tablet of clarinase.

Hi, I happen to see your comment and remember about this :
      - vasomotor rhinitis

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinitis#Vasomotor_rhinitis

My 3yo girl is having cough, flu and itch eye and nose too... Took her to see makuang and doc said she got this allergy. It could not be fully cure but only control it... Need to take care not to let her fall sick..or the sickness will get worse and very hard to get well... usually took 2-3week to fully recover... Now she taking chinese medi to 调理 her immu system and getting better... Dont see her cough during night time when turn on air con... =P

        Hi there,

I just came across this short article and am posting it here for reference and discussion. FYI, I am a pharmacist, and because of my kid's frequent episodes of cold/flu and wheezing attacks, have taken a keen interest in this area. Hope my sharing benefits parents here with similar interest.

        cheers

SWEDEN: A study published in the European Journal of Nutrition links taking Lactobacillus to a reduced incidence of common cold and less severe symptoms. Researchers from Swedish probiotic company, Probi, investigated data from 272 healthy adults. Participants were given Lactobacillus plantarum HEAL 9 and Lactobacillus paracasei or placebo. Results revealed that 55% of those given probiotics suffered cold symptoms compared to 67% in the control group, while the number of days symptoms lasted for was 6.2 in the probiotic group vs 8.6. In addition, 21% of the probiotic group suffered a second incidence of cold symptoms compared to 33% in the placebo group, while the severity of symptoms was also reduced. Researchers conclude that intake of the Lactobacillus strains reduces the risk of acquiring common cold infections.

(NB: Always take caution when the study is sponsored by a company with vested interest!)

normally this is a viral flu cycle from start to recovering.

Fever > running nose; sore throat, eye itch > cough.

This is our body natural way of virus out of our body an usually cough last the longest…
          Prevent is better than cure.

My son becomes sick (running nose & cough) every mths, ever since he is placed in child-care centre from 18 mths onwards. There was 1 or 2x that he fell sick 2x within a mth. I feel very 'tiring' to feed him medicines every mths. Taking too much western medicines has affected his physical well-being. As comparing to his peers, he is smaller in size. Before he turned 1 yr old, he was bigger in size as comparing to his peers. Now, becomes opposite... 😞

What to do??? 😞 That is the price that parents have to bear for putting their children in child-care centre. There are many children sick too at that child-care centre. The common sickness is flu, running nose & cough.

Plus point of putting my son in child-care centre - he can pick up more words and learns to talk faster & earlier, because there are teachers whom he can interact with. More people there.

                  Hi

Anybody has any remedies for dry cough? Notice my gal cough a few times throughout the day with no indication of phlegm. I don’t want to feed her western medicine cos she has been taking it quite frequently for the past months.

                  Any other remedies??

                  Thanks.

                        Hi

My 3 year old gal has been coughing for almost 2 weeks. She tends to cough in the morning when awakes and night before sleep. Can she drink the pear with chuan bei if it is not a chesty cough?

And do you give eggs or fish when they are coughing?? HEard that some fish can cause phelgm. What food to avoid too??

                        Thanks
