Hi BlackVelvet
Thanks for your very detailed info. Really appreciate it
The shoes...I was hoping that it would be the blue shoes going forward. My P4 daughter is wearing black shoes, and we never have to wash it  , bcoz any dirt is camouflaged!
BTW, is there some sort of ranking of classes (eg best students in one particular class)? -
Hi Zeedoo
Actually, I find the new grey-white shoes are not that bad. It changes to a darker grey when it gets dirty - not all that obvious. I bought sneaker shampoo from Bata, and so far I’ve only washed the shoes once.
The boys are streamed at the end of P2 based on their SA2 results. The better boys will be in the first class and so on… They are streamed again at the end of P4 and P5. -

You're welcome, ZeedooHi BlackVelvet
Thanks very much for the info! -
I've applied for a transfer for my DS fm Montfort Junior to St. Gabriel.
Am praying he'll get a slot for P3 next yr based on his P2 results & merits. -
Hi chic_mom
Err… Monfort and St. Gab’s are sister schools. Out of curosity, what’s Monfort like?
I was considering Monfort years ago, but registered my son into St Gab’s because the holding school then was nearer to my home. -

Montfort is a pretty gd sch i must say.. with a long history. Niche: badminton. 'ey expose boys to lots of CCA fm P1. Everything was ok until recently, wif d change of principal. Discipline wise, therz a tremendous drop. Well, i wasn't d only 1 who whines abt it.. most others whom i spoke to share pretty much d same frequency. -
Hi Blackvelvet, thks for the info on sch shoes. I just received the info pack from st gabs last night on orientation n was wondering if necessary to buy sch embrossed shoes n socks. Think better anyway does not cost much.
You mentioned that the kids are streamed according to their std in P2. Btw, which is considered first class - coz classes have names instead of a-z. From ur exp w the sch are there a couple of classes that usually do better than others in the same std? Of coz for p1, no diff, but just wondering for the other stds.
I noticed tt the info pack shows tt the boys r already divided into houses. Do they sit in houses too in class? How is the sitting arrangement done in class? Does the teacher rotate the seats allocated? -
Hi eetsc, classes are named according to the school’s 8 virtues, and I’ve come to realise that there is no fixed best class name. E.g., when my first son was in P1/P2, he was in 1 & 2Orderliness, then, in P3 he was in Generosity. There were only 3 or 4 P1 classes then. I noticed it would go like S G P S L O R D. P1 / P2 had classes until D (diligence), so when P3 comes, they start all over again - best class P3 Sincerity, 2nd class Generosity, etc.
This year, my son is in the Self-Discipline - found out on first day of school that this class is known as the “siblings” class, as most of the boys has elder brothers in the school. However, not sure whether this is purely coincidental.
Colour houses are really meant for Sports Day when the boys will compete according to their houses.
No idea how other class teachers would allocate the seating, but my 2 boys were not seated according to their colour houses. My son’s teacher would change the seats of a couple of boys when necessary, eg., if she feels that 2 boys seated together are too noisy, etc.
Hope this helps.
