Varnish/Sand Parquet
-
Hi
Do you have a good contractor to recommend for vanish/sand parquet ?
The rooms parquet is stained and with ugly scratches. I am thinking of varnishing it but DH is concern that it is going to be very dirty especailly when we have furniture in the rooms.
Has anyone done the varnishing while staying in ?
What about polishing of marble ?
Any advise/help is appreciated.
thanks -
I have parquet flooring in my bedrooms and we did sanding with varnishing while staying in before.
My advise: Try to move out while they sand and only come back a few days after varnish is done. The smell is terrible! And when sanding, the dust particles will really irritate your throat and eyes. Even your walls and furniture will have alot of dust.
It took us 3 solid days of vacuuming and wiping the entire house to get rid of all the dust!
For marble floor polishing (my parent’s place just underwent this):
It’s really messy cos they need to wet the floor too. Don’t think it can be done with existing furniture at home. -
Hi mrswongtuition,
Thanks for the prompt and useful advise. That's a real headache. Need to do some serious planning here. Either while DS1 is away on camp or park them at grandmas.
Do you have a contractor to recommend ? Looks like I may need a cleaning agent too cos I do not have a maid and I don't think I can manage the cleaning, not to mention 3 days.
Marble polish ? secondary liao. Too many bulky furniture to shift.
Have been staying here for 6 years and think it needs to do some serious cleaning liao. :?: -
My mum’s marble floor polishing was part of her reno package, so not too sure how much it costs.
My parquet flooring (3 bedrooms) was $450 for varnishing, no sanding. Sanding is additional $100/room.
Need to take note that sometimes after sanding, it might be uneven (they sand too much at a certain spot).
My ID arranged for it, so I don’t have the contractor’s contact. -
thanks mrswongtuition for the information, tips and advise.

Sosomum, my bro was telling me that the contractor can help to shift everything into 1 room, then polish the living room, shift everything out then polish the rooms for the marble flooring. Also, need to see the quality of the flooring, some cannot be grinded/polished.
For the parquet flooring, I think the contractor is called Jason Parquet or something like that (according to my brother). -
ok thanks, I’ll discuss with DH. Appreciate much for the info.
