      Jennifer:
The GEP selection results is supposed to be released in early Nov and parents hv up to x date in Nov to decide whether to accept the GEP placement.

The sch report books are to be given to the pupils next week, before the x date of parents confirming GEP placement.

So, wld the class placement for P4 next year be reflected in the P3 report book?

Suppose 20 pupils from the top classes accepted GEP and transferred out of PH, does it mean the 20 vacancies will be filled up by moving all pupils upwards based on the level positions?

Shld anyone has insider info on how many pupils accepted GEP placement, pls post here when possible. I wld like to guage the chances of my boy going to a better class (at least Ho4) or shld I start making other plans?
The briefing for selected kids is at 13 Nov, if I did not rem wrongly, and according to PH's website, report book will be given out on 16 Nov, so I guess the report book should reflect the allocated class, with the list of kids accepted GEP taken out. I am speculating base on the dates given.

Yes, I heard from FT that the 'void' will be filled in by moving up the kids according to level position.

dyh, I did not realise Gr2 last year got all band 1 for Maths. Congrats for your son's maths! He tops the class again!

Thanks. Well there are 2 others with the same mark as him. but he is not very happy that there was a careless mistake. heard that in the whole level, nobody got 100%.

Congrats! So we will be losing one bright spark to GEP? ๐Ÿ˜‰

He didn't do well in his EL and CL tho. He came down with fever on the day of his MA exam. So he could not prepare for the CL at all but miraculously he recovered well enough to sit for CL. but obviously not in the best condition. However, i am thankful that he could at least sit for the paper after all his hard work thoughout the year. to me, the result is secondary...
Yup, the highest maths score is 99%, from CH3, of course. Mine said she has careless mistakes (note : plural), but she is happy...see the difference in attitude.  She did alright for Maths, Science and EL, but not CL, just as what I expected.

Although her results reflect otherwise, this year she was quite lax...was not quite happy when I see so many 'ang kongs' in her CL ็ฌ”่ฎฐ. Hardly anything useful to revise in there. :stupid: We wish that she had consistently put in effort rather than doing a last-min dash just for the sake of scoring in exam. To me, interest in learning comes first, but somehow this year, I got this feeling that, for CL, she studies just for exam. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Jenneifer - I can understand....which is why I was thrilled when I hear there is a chance that P1 this year will move up together to P2. Waiting for anyone in this thread to advice if they had heard the same as there were some discussions on cottage style apprach sometime back. If this is true at least I know there are quite a number of good student in his class which can give him positive influence.

My boy SA2 has improved as compared to SA1 but EL not so good (altho still band 1 since most P1 will score 90+). Using some statistics shared by some of you earlier...my boy average score (estimated) is about 89...not 90 so prob no chance to Gr2.
That's a rather major decision for the school. Do you mind sharing from which \"source\" did you hear it from? The \"cottage\" class was posted by php some time back on MOE piloting the project and NYPS taking it up. If PHP would be doing the same, I wonder what impact would it make to the school? Perhaps school is taking this early step towards phasing out exams for the P1s by 2013?

IJJ, don't get too discouraged with your dd's CL. Not sure whether this will work, during the hols, have a committed time to CL only, your elder dd can teach your younger one. Let her feel the \"exasperation\" in teaching CL, she might begin to understand how you feel too. However, if she could feel the achievement when she succeeded in teaching her younger sister to learn more CL, then she might feel good about the subject too. If you don't want to make it too \"obvious\" that you are putting more emphasis on CL, then you can also allocate other subjects for revision. My friend's experience with her girls was when she stressed too much on improving their chinese (her girls are also eat potatoes), they got put off even more. It backfired. Of course, pray that your dd will get a CL teacher who will be inspiring. Sometimes, it just needs that little nudge for her to start enjoying that subject.

CL is not exactly an enjoyable subject for my dd as well but I have to let her do consistently so that when she doesn't find it difficult, she will willingly do them and thus maintain her grade.

Overall, she had done better than SA1, no careless mistakes whatsoever.

There is a tuition centre based in Beauty World but students hv to attend lessons twice a week and they are very strict with doing homework.

                  Can I know which centre?

Hi Prisnkc, its YuRen tuition centre. They used to be located at B1 but they have shifted to 4th level near the bridge. Which level is yr darling?
FYi, they are closed from 5Nov to 13Nov and 23 to 31Dec.

The killing shot was the O&E Comprehension. Many kids lost the most of the marks there. Your ds did well with band 1 in EL. dd told me that there was quite a number getting band 2 for EL in her class.

As for class, the top 4 classes are ok according to my dd's FT talk to them. i think likewise because the marks are too close. probably the first break will be in P3 as the kids are more settle down and also new subject in Science.

talking about Math Olympiad and DSA, I think Mathspark is the real expert in this forum

generally, if your DSA first choice is for NUSHS, preferably must have NMOS Gold (Pri 5) and SMOPS (Gold / Platinum - Pri 6) and be good in science

there are so many avenues to enter HCI via DSA - sports, math, bilingual, GEP, etc

for RI, if you are not GEP, be the top few in SG in your selected domain, be it arts, math, science, EL or CL

for HYGH: bilingual, GEP, calligraphy (national top 3 consistently), math

for DHS : any of the above (่ฎฒๅบŸ่ฏ)

in terms of academic competition, what else besides math olympiad (NMOS, SMOPS, RIPWMC, AMC, PLK, Gauss.... all these vlim is more expert)

my kaypoh info may not be accurate hor
thanks verykiasu2010....your brief information reconfirmed that I was on the right track for my dd.....

\"Cottage\" class is a new pilot project and I don't think it will come to PHPPS soon.
