      Jennifer:

Parents of P3, do you hv issues with Science qn 34a and Maths qn 38?

How about Scinece Qn 15:A Some (micro-organism) can be very tiny. My boy said all (micro-organism) are very tiny, so he said (A) is wrong.

Math Qn 34. answer is three angles that are smaller than a right-angle. but among these three angles, one angle only about 1 degree lesser than the right angle. how can the children differentiate this tiny difference.

I agree that Sci qn 15 is badly set. If an organism is known as micro-
organism, it cant be not tiny. Why compare \"tiny\" vs \"very tiny\"?

Maths Qn 34 is a tricky one. That's why I tell my boy must use a ruler to help guage. He got it wrong too though one glance I already can tell it is an acute angle.

To Jennifer and other parents of P3, may I know does your child's CL teacher release CL paper 1 score and overall? I only know her score of paper 2.

She did not return paper 2 to my boy ytd :x My boy told me only some classmates have their paper 2 back. I called the office n left a msg for her.

The practice is not to tell paper 1 and oral/listening compreh marks. Scared parents make noise abt the compo marking.

          Jennifer:

The Maths qn 2nd sentence does not make any sense to me.

For Maths 38, I think it is ok. Just trying to trick the kids.

Don't you think the 2nd sentence of Maths qn 38 does not make any sense?

There is another question on the Penguin (Q32). It goes...State the function of each part of the penguin. The first part is 'webbed feet\". Mine wrote \"They help the penguin hunt in water and walk on land.\" Marked wrong then changed to correct. 2nd part is 'beak'. Mine wrote \"it allows the penguin to eat.\" Marked wrong. The model correct answer is \"To catch fish.\" Then she asked me, \"Isn't beak a part of mouth for feeding?\" IMO, the questions are not specific. They should have posed questions like, \"Why does the penguin have a sharp and hooked beak?\"

I think answers to such questions must relate back to the characteristics of living things (in this case, animals).

Feet helps in moving from place to place. In the case of Penguin, its webbed feet helps it to swim. IMO \"hunting/walking\" are general English words.

As for the beak, the bird must catch its prey first, then able to eat. A better ans might be \"catch fish and eat\". Cannot think it is common sense that the teacher will understand when we do not write down the \"catch prey\" portion.

My 4 yo were around us when we were discussing this yesterday, she was saying baby penguin does not need to catch fish, just use beak to eat. She saw the pic and said, maybe jiejie thot this one is baby. She added that emperor penguin has big baby, like the one in the pic.

Joke aside. Well, IMO, if the question is to state the function (singular), the student is expected to name any function, not necessary the sequence. Well, again bad question. The students attempted this paper needed some 'luck' to guess what answers the tester is looking for.

I wrote an email too. Wld be sending a hardcopy of the email to the HODs too. I want to make sure the feedback gets to the proper authority in the sch.

That's the danger of interpreting the qn wrongly. Unless the qn specifically says this is a baby penguin, we must assume it is an adult one.

My boy also made a few assumptions here and there for this paper. At least, this time he is more receptive to my explanations. Well, this is a learning process. After going through numerous lousy Science qns set by the sch with my elder boy for the past few years, I dun concerned myself too much with the marks as long as my boy understands the concept well (as shown in his MCQ and how he explained to me the ans in section B). I trust PSLE Science paper qns are of better std.

I thought so too but both my dd's FT and Cl teacher let the kids look at their papers 1.

Congrats, comfy!! So ur dd is in CH3? 😎

No lah, it was my 4 yo who cheekily suggested that. The P3 girl did not assume it is a baby penguin.
