Met my girl's MT teacher to discuss this as I have the same concern. She suggested to have my girl try for a year since she is currently coping well. May opt out by end of P2 if she is not comfortable with it. Heard that there will be 3 classes for HMT. Anyway for me, decided to opt in for HMT.
It's good to opt in for HMT 'cos the MT teacher said they will get to learn higher level chinese but the exam for NMT & HMT will be the same.
Depending on the number of students who opted for HMT, there may be one or two classes. -
I did not have chance to talk to MT teacher yesterday as rushing for work. However, my friend (a chinese teacher fr other school) mentioned that the students will have to take 2 papers for exam, normal chinese & higher chinese, i think this should be the case. It is no point to learn higher chinese but not being tested.

That probably will happen in upper primary when they are tested on HMT but not for lower primary.
In other schools, HMT is only offered in P5 onwards. -

Actually, SVPS also offers HMT in P2. DLS is not the only \"KS\" School.
There's a school in Woodlands already offering HMT in P1, all kids will take HMT. My friends' kids are there and the standard is higher than DLS. They are supposed to write 5 sentences without helping words in Paper 1 for SA2(Pri 1).
Their English exam paper is also more difficult. There is cloze passage without any helping words at all.
As for Math exam, there is no MCQ at all, the kids need to find their own ans, cannot make any guessing at all.
YTPS only offers HMT in P5,that's why, I decided to reg my girl in DLS 'cos it will be \"too late\" to take HMT in P5 whereas other kids are already taking HMT in P2. -
Wow, this MT is really complex hor ? All P1 offerred HMT or only those coped well ? My friend’s kid didn’t do very well 63/100 was also offered HMT.

Actually, I also wonder how the teacher choose the student for recommendation of HMT? -

My girl said two classmates not offered HMT in her MT class. Not sure what's the cut off point.
