Thanks, Caroline3sg. Will tell my boy to check with the teacher tomorrow. This teacher does not accept emails. She prefers parents to write in the communication book and she will contact the parents.

I think this question is flawed, maybe the experts can help to verify.

        from what I know:
mimosa has flowers, so that's A
morning glory has flowers, so that's also A

mosquito ferns and tree ferns are ferns, so that's C

moss is NOT a fern, it is a separate class from fern, that's B
mushroom is also NOT a fern, it is a fungi, that's B

        :?

        jesschan:
Can someone give me the answer to the following question?

        Flowering plant -----Yes ----->A
        |
        No
        |
        Fern -------Yes------> C
        |
        No
        |
        B

Which of the following is true?

        (1) A = Mimosa, B = Moss, C = Mosquito Fern

        (2) A = Morning Glory, B= Mushroom, C= Tree Fern

On second thoughts, I think (1) may be more correct if the teacher is looking for B to be a plant. I think moss is considered a plant and mushroom is obviously not.

            Hi

In P3 Science , students learned that one of the ways to classify plants is according to whether they produce flowers.

I think this question seeks to test a student on the classification into flowering and non flowering plants.

Mosses and ferns are non flowering plants.Mushrooms belong to a group called fungi.

            (1) is a logical answer.

              Hi, just saw this discussion.

I think the answer is 2.

Morning Glory is a flowering plant. So that’s A.

Mushroom is not a plant, so that’s B.

C is a fern, I don’t know what is a Tree Fern but from the name, it should be a type of fern.

By the way, moss is a type of plant because it makes its own food.

My girl in P3 scored 95.5 in SA1 esp all correct in MCQ. I thk it because I had print out more than 20 past school exam papers for her to practice & she had done 3 to 4 assessment books to improve herself. No matter how bad, I still think that practice made perfect.

feels better to know other parents are facing the same problem .

Honestly, if we parents are here discussing about all these science questions meant for 9 to 10 yr olds, can we imagine what is going through the minds of our kids? what is MOE trying to proof by raising the level of science (and math) to such a level that is almost killing the kid's interest?

I think what is being taught is fair, but the way the questions are asked, it's beyond the cognitive level of a 9/10 year old.

if the only way of mastering the subject is by doing 30 to 40 past test papers and assessment books, MOE has to realise that the original intention of getting our kids to think critically has failed.

any idea how we can have a dialogue with MOE? going through the schools is useless. :?:

                        pardon my mini outburst here.
