All About GEP

RachelSmiley:
My dd had managed to survive a year of HCL in P3 using only the electronic dict from Popular as her tutor. I feel really guilty about this, but her only exposure to Chinese is during her school lessons. My MT sucks! (excuse the expression). She is offered HCL next year. Is there a very big leap to HCL in P4 Gep from P3 HCL?
Gep hcl is tougher than mainstream hcl. To me, there was a big leap from p3 hcl. -
Nebbermind:
Some people don't see it as whether the kid can handle or not. They see it as minus-2 pts for 'O' level agg which will help the child in getting into a premier JC!!

like to know how this is calculate. Pls \"enlighten\" me.
Thks in advance. -

I've checked with ds's GEP HCL tr - he confirmed with me tt GEP HCL is of a higher standard than mainstream HCL. Mainstream HCL is a SAP school.

Thank you pecalis and ksme. Handed in reply form long ago. Do they use very cheem words in compo and compre? Are they required write-ups or do research ? Hope not or else I will :faint: -

Compo expectation is much higher and compre is difficult. Most kids lose marks in compre in DS class. -
Thank you KSmom8. Still having weak knees. The bright side is there are lesser nightmares to contend with.

[quote="TREX8"]In DD’s school (a non-SAP school), at P4, GEP kids/parents can choose whether to do HCl or not.
At P5, kids need to meet certain academic criteria before they are allowed to take up HCL.

If GEP kids choose CL at P5 which is easier than the GEP HCL, then I suppose that will benefit the overall % at year end which will benefit their DSA.
Is GEP CL same as mainstream CL? Do they attend lesson togather? -
DD's P4 CL teacher told me that GEP CL is enriched curriculum - that is, of a higher standard than mainstream CL. GEP HCL is also enriched curriculum, that is, of a higher standard than mainstream HCL.
Not sure about extent of impact on overall %. For DD's cohort, the highest/ lowest/average scores for HCL and Cl is comparable. I suppose if we assume a child who is above average at CL would be around average/slightly below average when taking HCL, then I suppose the overall % will suffer (maybe around 2% if we assume a decrease in 10marks, which is 2% when averaged over 5subjects).
However, the intangible will be exposure to CL that is of higher standard and demand.Zann:

Hi,
just to check what kind of assessments we should buy for GEP subjects. Is normal HCL assessment sufficient for GEP HCL?
Do we just rely on the schools for the supp worksheets. What can we buy to help the child? Anything in Popular? I would not want to send my child for tuition if possible. He’ll be in P4 next yr.
Thanks for your feedback. -
A friend told me that there is this ‘Edusave Scholarship’ that is given out at Pri5 for the top 10% (I think) fo each level and stream. This is different from the one that was given when students were in P1 to P4 as it is regardless of income level. That means, if the child qualifies for the scholarship at P5, he/she can get the award (my friend mentioned $300?) regardless of family income.
Does any parent know how this 10% will be derived for kids in GEP?
