      Since the papers were easy this year, I suppose the national average should be higher and standard deviation lower. I took the national average as 79 and standard deviation as 10. Therefore, a raw score of 77 marks is converted to a T-score of 48 (T-score of 50 = national average per subject) or B grade rather than an A grade which would have been the case during school examinations. Not sure if my analysis is correct. Any ideas?

        atutor2001:

        Just simple arithmetics and simultaneous equation.

        Top T-scorer is 282 --> 282/4 = 70.5 (average T-score per subject)

        T-score = 50 + 10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 70.5
        10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 70.5 - 50
        10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 20.5
        (Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 2.05
        (Raw score - Mean) = 2.05 x Std D
        Mean = Raw score - 2.05 x Std D
        (I have assumed that the average raw score for this great guy is 99)

        Mean = 99 - 2.05 x Std D --- eqn 1

        Someone posted that with 4A* the T-score is 263. (I assume that the average raw score is the minimum for A* = 91.)

        Using the similar process, to obtained the 2nd equation :

        T-scorer is 263 --> 282/4 = 65.75 (average T-score per subject)

        T-score = 50 + 10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 65.75
        10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 65.75 - 50
        10x(Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 15.75
        (Raw score - Mean)/Std D = 1.575
        (Raw score - Mean) = 1.575 x Std D
        Mean = Raw score - 1.575 x Std D

        Mean = 91 - 1.575 x Std D --- eqn 2

        Solving eqn 1 & 2,

        Std Dev = 16.84 marks
        Mean = 64.47

        Just an indicative estimate but it gives me an idea of the mean and the spread.
        Thank atutor2001, it's very clearly explained my question...do you know what the A*, A, B, C...score is?

          If there is no change, the scores should be :

          A* > 91
          A 75 - 90
          B 60 - 74
          C 50 - 59
          D 35 - 49
          E 20 - 34

              The scores of A*, A etc…DOES NOT vary with T-scores.

                Can anybody clarify with me Why the table G-1 on the booklet does not include all sch? There are only 66 schools on that list, but there are totally 160+ schools, I understand there are some IP schools should be excluded, but still meet that gap. Thanks.

                I need to know the Band level for the target school.

                  Yes, but while the ranges mentioned by atutor are right, there could be some moderation done to the range ...

                    I don’t quite understand. If grades are not moderated, won’t everyone get a poor grade when the exams are tough and As when exams are easy?

                        Hi, My son got A* for Maths, A for English and A for Science.. based on the worst case scenerio he should be getting 240, however he only returned a 230 by MOE. He is exempted from MT..

                        Need advise as to should I appeal ..becos the 10 pionts make a huge difference in school application.

                        Thanks all
