I was there too with my DD. A parent spoke to the VP re the daughter chance of getting in. The Daughter was scoring 23something. The VP is very honest and spoke in a kind manner that there is no chance as she believes alot of the high end 24 something and 250s will apply for Cedar this year which i believe too as it is really a nice school with good ambience and impressive programmes

I was waiting with my friend for her parents to arrive at the general office. There, we met our classmate. Her parents were talking to this male guy with another parent. This male guy whom I presumed to be the VP, entertained all the questions my classmate's parents were asking. He seemed to me as a really nice VP/Staff/Teacher as he did not seem to be irritated by the questions but instead answered them nicely. I was impressed. This is definitely a school I want to go. It may not be independent, but the whole school gave me an impression that it is very high-class. I really liked the school.

Hi livewith_vanilla
So you are a 2010PSLE graduand and you have chosen Cedar? Congratulations πŸ™‚
You will truly enjoy your time there.

Happy to know that you are very impressed with the school though I personally won't comment on whether the school has a \"high-class\" feel coz we were not taught to hold on to any \"elitist mindset\" πŸ˜›

Any past-Cedarians reading this could probably guess my rough age : I was from the \"Tan Chen Choo\" era ... Tan Chen Choo was the then Principal. She often taught us values quoted from Confucius and she often stresses the need to be humble and to \"ying shui shi yan\" (to be grateful & respectful to whoever has helped us be where we are today)

Enjoy your time in Cedar πŸ™‚ I enjoyed mine :)
Thank you. LOL. I'm just impressed. A great school. ^^ I will enjoy my time there too, hopefully!

My teacher actually told me that COP may increase cos the papers were easy.

Is it true?

But others told me COP will drop due to paper easy.

I am confuse now. :?
Dear all, advise please. My child psle result is 223. So far this is what we have on the list:

Chung Cheng (Yishun) cop: 230, mean: 235, median: 233
Gan Eng Seng, cop: 222, mean: 228, median: 227
Mayflower, cop: 222, mean: 225, median: 225
Hua Yi, cop: 221, mean: 225, median: 225
Bowen, cop: 221, mean: 226, median: 225
Peirce, cop: 208, mean: 213, median: 212

Her cca is international dance and she is from River Valley Primary. Is the list too aggressive or good strategy. Worst outcome we are hoping she is going to Gan Eng Seng.

Advise please, pretty please to this confused mother-daughter.

You can consider Beatty sec sch, walking distance from Braddell Stn.
They have been very consistent in getting the value-add awards and the banding for 2010 'O' level is 6, one of the best schools to consider for good academic performance.
Good luck in your choices!

Thank you so much for the suggestion, look it up already - there is no international dance for cca. Sigh...

Any advise on putting Chung Cheng as 1st choice?
There is no harm putting Chung Cheng as 1st choice but realistically,
the chance of getting posted to Chung Cheng is low, considering that their COP was even higher in the past years.

I would say your next choices Gan Eng Seng and Mayflower are good choices as both these are value-added schools (whereas Chung Cheng is not!). With your daughter's COP, her chances are very high indeed.

yes me too confused , co was told paper easy , standard raise leads to lower t score and if so , cop should drop right ?

Anyone applying for NUS High school besides attending MOE S1 exercise...

Since NUSH results will be out a week before S1, I understand, once NUSH's offer is accepted, the child will automatically be dropped from S1.

Thanks madhub. Then will not apply for NUSH and go for other IP schools.

Dear All, kindly ask for your advise please for my dd who scored 223. We live in Mount Faber she is from River Valley PS. Our choices so far is:

1. Chu Cheng Main (cop 208-231)
2. Gan Eng Seng (222-239)
3. Peirce (208-231)

Hoping to get Gan Eng Seng but try to strecth it to get Chu Cheng due to dd would like to go to JC. Is it wise?
Hi, may I clarify? Chu Cheng Main = Chung Cheng High main?
cop 208?

Possibly NJC, but that's co-ed and they do not offer SBGE. The other alternative is SCGS which also offers SBGE.
Erm, but NJC curriculum is it's own SBGE programme already. There are students in last year's batch who couldn't cope and actually left in year 2 for MGS instead. It does have accelerated programmes on top of it's usual curriculum, but the students have to be identified for those.

Does anybody know whether the total intake number of the top schools will reduce or not? I ask this because this cohort is smaller than last year by about 3000 students.

She refers to Chung Cheng High Yishun. COP for the past 4 years were:
2010: 230, 2009: 230, 2008: 231, 2007: 234.

Proudparentof2, if your dd would like to go to JC, wouldn't she stand a better chance at Gan Eng Seng (achieved band 5 in 2010) than Chung Cheng Yishun (achieved band 6 in 2010)?
In fact, CCHY seems to be over-rated, academically.

HCJC being one of the oldest JC can't alone account for the fact that it produced the most president scholars. There must be quite alot of good students from other good secondary schools (such as RI and RGS) to account for it. As I have said, TCHS and NYGS don't produced more than 5 for the last 20-30 years. The other dozens that HCJC have produced must come from other secondary schools...evrybody can go and figure which other secondary schools can produce so many president scholars.

Your argument is beginning to sound like a joke.

How many president scholars are there in a year ?

You can count on your figures, It is an average of only 5 a year.

So you are basing that to say \"many\" people from Ri/RGS goes to HCJC ?

Do you realise how ridiculous your claims are ?

I think you don't understand the point. There are 50 president scholars from HCJC over the years. Only around 5 were from TCHS and NYGS school combined. How do you account for the other nearly 3-4 dozens?

My answer is that many were from RGS (maybe not RI)

And I also want to correct your view that 90% of RI and RGS proceed on to RJC. It is simply not true in the older days when the cutoff point of RJC was 7-8 (that is very good score in older days) and the average L1B5 of RI and RGS was 8 or 9. Many simply can't make the score for entry into RJC. Moreover, some that make the score prefer schools like HCJC, NJC or VJC. The size of each cohort of JC in those days were 700-800, not the over 1000 nowaday. RJC and HCJC in those days were really not as monolithic in its student intake as you think.

I really don't want to split hair over scores or number of scholars etc...I don't keep statistics but a simple google gave me this site which shows that HCJC was top in at least 2003 and 2004. But you may complain why based on number of 4 distictions, why not other measures?

http://www.physics.com.sg/jcranking.htm
I am not trying to split hairs here..but I am just trying to correct the impression you are trying to create that MANY students from the Raffles schools goes to HCJC.

If you were honest enough to admit that was a mistake on your part, I would have stop there. but instead you choose to go on and cite other examples which i have clearly refuted.

Now , you are again changing your stand that there are 50 President scholars from HCJC over the years.

My question is then...50 scholars over a duration of HCJC existence, maybe 30 years(?) gives an average of only 1.7 scholar/yr

So that was your 'many\" ? miserable 1.7?

Again you are wrong about many RI/RGS students cannot make it to RJC..RI?RGS students are the cream...if they cannot make it to RJC, who else can ?? and please do not forget.all RI/RGS students also have a extra 2 points whcih gives them an great advantage
