      red rose:
So, you mean to say that a pupil with for eg.overall 90% but GPA 3.94 will be ranked lower than another with an overall of 85% and GPA 4.0? A bit strange ....

hi red rose, that is correct, however I do not think it is that strange as I feel the overall % should not be so high and so far apart as you have mentioned.
      red rose:
By the way, just to kay-poh, do you know roughly how many actually achieve an overall GPA 4.0 at the end of the year? I was told the numbers are very very low (mainly becos of languages)...is this true?
It may be true that very few can achieve overall GPA of 4 due to languages, since languages are core that must be included in the GPA calculation. I do not know how many achieve overall 4.0, but usually, only 1 achieve all subjects 4.0, but several can get overall 4.0 since you do not take ALL subjects to compute GPA.
      red rose:
You also mentioned in an earlier post that marks are adjusted upwards eg 69.1 gives you a 70. That was what I thought too, from the scores of the mid-year exams.

However, my dd's form teacher told her that for the final scores, the moderation follows normal mathematical rules eg 69.4 --> 69 (ouch!) & 69.5 --> 70. I found this out only because of some mark discrepancies I had to clarify. Calculated marks higher than school's computation because of rounding down! πŸ˜› The teacher also mentioned that the rounding up of marks from 0.1 was due to a computer glitch in mid-year !?!
I thought so too, based on the mid-year results. I am unaware of the change of policy or any computer glitch. In the Sec 4 EOY report, only grades are shown, there are no marks.

You can go to the parents' portal on iNET and check out the SPM powerpoint slides (left column). There are figures of how this year's Sec 2s performed for their Sec 1 EYAs. Current Sec 1s will probably know the

mean GPA only next year during the SPM. Hope this helps. πŸ˜„
I can't seems to locate any SPM on the left column? Any idea how to navigate to that?

          Hi Alchemyst,

You have to sign in via the parents' portal. Look on the left side under 'documents' - 2010 SPM is at the bottom of this column, just above 'pictures'.

          Cheers!

Parents whose DD got into RGS via DSA. Do you mind sharing your child’s PSLE results?

            Thank you very much.

My Daughter scored 257. COP for RGS is 260. Is it risky to apply?

                1) Would like to find out if it is diificult or competitive to get into dance as CCA in RGS.

                2) Understand RGS has semester system where exams are by semester. Is this correct? Are there weekly tests?
                3) Are there any compulsory subjects to take in year 3 & 4? Some schools make it compulsory to take additional maths and combined humanities.
                4) Will triple science be offered to all students who are keen or is it offered only to top students whereas all other students need to take only one or two pure science?

Hope to understand more about the above about RGS.

                  1) Generally, sports are the hardest to get in followed by performing arts, then uniform groups.
                  2) there are no weekly tests. The main exams are at the end of each semester but different subjects may have different tests on random dates. For example practical for sciences. But the teacher will clearly state if it is counted in overall.
                  3) maths 1, maths 2, English, chinese, social studies are compulsory. Other than this, you need to take 4 more subjects. Any 4 from the following: bio, chem, physics, history, geography, literature. There are other compulsory subjects such as philosophy and research studies which are not counted into gpa.
                  4) most people will get their 1st choice of subject combination, sometimes all. Sometimes there may be a handful who do not get it. Triple science is offered to any student who wants it, not just top students.

I think your daughter's score may not meet the COP of RGS which has so far never fallen below 260. However, she can always appeal after the S1-posting results are out. I have seen people who successfully appealed even though her score was 4 points below the COP. No harm trying.

Not difficult to get into dance, but it's really dependent on your dd's abilities. I assume you're talking about International Dance? RGS also offers Indian dance, Malay dance, Chinese dance...

International Dance is one of the most competitive CCAs in RGS. To get in, your daughter has to have an experience in dancing and be very good at it. Apparently, only one (or even no one) on the Reserve list got in.

As to other dances, there is Indian Dance and Malay Dance. Indian Dance should be easy enough to get in if you learnt it before. As for Malay Dance, you can be of any race to join it (in fact, most members are actually Chinese) and isn't very hard nor very easy to get in.

P.S. jtoh, RGS does not offer Chinese Dance πŸ˜„
