hi koguma, May I have some advice from u? for aggregate of 203,

what are the schools u would recommend if staying ard Serangoon North(near to Hougang+Ang Mo Kio Ave 3)?
Considering Pierce but COP 206-208…other choices are Guang Yang COP 203, Serangoon Garden(coz it’s nerest, but so far heard that it’s not very good), Chong Boon & Yio Chu Kang…any comments/advice?? Thanks in advance!!

You can try putting Pierce as 1st choice, although high chance your child may not get in, unless the lower COP drops from 206 to 203 this year.

Assume you lose the chance to get into 1st choice, then you must choose the 2nd choice carefully.

You may want to check this person posting in another thread (http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6032&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=520).
The person recommended few good schools. You may want to consider them. But pls note the schools are near Bishan.

        1) Bishan Park - (COP 188, Mean 201, Med 200) This sch also value adds express students. Supposed to be centre of excellence for art, so their art and music programme quite strong.

        2) Whitley (COP 195, Mean 205, Med 204) - I ever asked a boy from that sch if he likes the sch. He's from the express stream. He said that other than the perception that the school is not great and everything, he still generally likes the sch. I also asked if he had a chance to choose schs again, would he pick this sch and he said he would.

        3) Bartley Sec - (COP 193, Mean 204, Med 203, Band 9 Sch for Exp, Band 5 for Normal) This sch seems to perform better than most as it has more stars in the academic value-add category for both express and normal. Besides the mean and median is not far from your child's score, making your child the avg kid in sch.

        ++++
Personally when I choose school, I will also look at the subjects that the school offered for Sec 3. I realised that for Guangyang (COP 203, Mean 209, Med 207) for 2010, there are 1 Triple Pure Science class, 2 Double Pure Science classes. If your child like Science, then I think Guangyang is another good choice.

Solrry but I have no idea about the remaining 3 schools: Serangoon Garden, Chong Boon & Yio Chu Kang.

Have you consider schools in Yishun? You may want to check out NorthBrooks.

Hope the info is useful 🙂

In my opinion, St Hilda’s Secondary is not a good choice 😕 If ur child is a girl, you might want to consider putting her in an all girls’ school my four girls have all graduated from their primary schools which was St Anthony’s Canossian and Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ with astonishing results for their PSLE and my eldest child, an excellent result for A levels. My younger sister is currently studying in St Hilda’s Sec and her behaviour has took a turn for e worst, there is this teacher in SHSS, Ms Loy Chong Hwa, who apparently is a math teacher and caused two classes to fail math.

Is East Spring Sec Sch a good/bad choice? Im not only looking at the school’s COP cos i think the discipline is as important. Anyone knows the passing/failing rate for this school?

Hi \"dsii\", you can refer to the \"Secondary School Selection 2013\" thread for more information on the schools. I almost missed your question here, lucky I received an email from the portal that there is one posting on this thread.

Comparing Punggol Sec and Greendale Sec, Punggol Sec median score is lower than Greendale Sec. I understand from my sister that Punggol Sec principal is very strict with the students, hence discipline is slightly better.

For Greendale Sec, quote what my nephew (Sec 4 this year in the school) told his younger brother \"Don't come to Greendale !!\". Personally, we believe most of the teachers are doing their work, but we are not happy with the way Greendale's principal runs the school, especially in the Sec 3 subjects combination. Quote my nephew \"He is always not in the school !\" Maybe he is busy having meetings at MOE ? However my nephew told me that the school \"O\" level results has improved over the years.

I happened to help a parent look for schools that offered Express courses for COP around your boy's score. You can take a look. The schools are around Bishan, Serangoon, Hougang, Seng Kang, Punggol.

Note: do not be misled by those schools with very high COP. You should focus on the median score to understand the academic level of the school intake.

                        BARTLEY SECONDARY SCHOOL
                        Express 188(Low), 232(High), 200(Median)

                        Express 188(Low), 230(High), 202(Median)

                        PEICAI SECONDARY SCHOOL
                        Express 188(Low), 250(High), 202(Median)
