      24hr-mum:
but by default his mtd of reading is just enjoy the pics.

It's the default programme for any kiddie la dearie.. Myself included.
It is how all children start out. How old is he again? πŸ˜‰
      24hr-mum:
...for #3 started only when 3.5yrs. kept forcing. it eventually wked out tho its forcing mtd. forcing as in i told him : u cant go off n play until u learnt ur cards. to me, its attittude problem for my boy.
As all children are born different, it's almost impossible to have the one
method fix all method. They will be receptive to different methods of
      teaching and learning.

While my DD1 was the sit-down-concentrate type and receptive to the
Montessori Method, DD2 was more the active-i-dowanna-sit-neh-neh-
pooh-pooh type... so i had to adjust the method to suit her learning
      style. πŸ˜‰

The main objective is how we get them interested to learn the concept
we're trying to teach, be it the reading process, early numeracy skills
      and so on.. πŸ˜„

I believe that if at first you don't succeed try other ways. :hugs:

That said, of course... it wud definitely be easier if they can all learn the
same way. Save time, cost, time & energy. πŸ˜‰

Aniwaes, there are some games over these blue links if you are keen to
      try them out, 24hrs-mum. πŸ˜‰

          Mrs Ang:

Thanks so 2 more years for my DH

For you DH? Haha..is you DH going for class or is it he has to fetch your child? πŸ˜‰ How old is your child anyway?

Why not. My wife taught my DD phonics when she is 18 months and I have to learn from her too (prior to that I don't know about phonics) so that I can teach my DD

i just hope he wont monkey around when outside.

his attn span quite short and his enrichment teachers say must be strict, as i hv told them so, or else he will monkey ard

he is that type that can talk to strangers like gd friends kind.
                not scared of anyone.
that day a NEA offcr came my hse to chk, he asked him wat is his name. the offcr said Chan xxx. then when leavg time, my boy said, bye bye uncle, bye bye Old Chang Kee!

                        is phonics class a must?

i know it helps in reading n spelling.
but if dont go for phonics, still can do well?
my #1 didnt go cos she likes to read on her own but i do notice she has some spelling errors cos no phonics sense

but our time we dint hv phonics but still survive or do well for eng

i m thnkg whr to send number two for phonics but he can read sight reading well.
From experience with my kids, it's good to have some phonics knowledge. I only taught my son the letter sounds, some digraphs, simple rules here and there. He picked up letter blends in school. No problem in P1 - scored full marks for all topical tests and spellings (with no preparations).

As for my five year old, we stopped at letter sounds and some digraphs. We didn't do much blending with her. Initially, spelling long words (for writing) was a little tough for her. But after a short while, it became a second nature to her. She can now spell long words such as apprehensive with ease. Not by phonics but by breaking up the syllables, e.g. ap.pre.hen.sive. Besides, I also taught her simple grammar rules such as changing singular to plural. Eg. leaf to leaves. English is definitely more than just phonics.

Both my kids started to read books by sight reading. (No flashcards either.) So long as your kids know some basic phonics, with proper guidance, they should have no problem with English.
