Hi markfch, when my kid was in K, i said something similar as you and could not understand why Spore parents are so KS. but after entering PH, i still got trapped into this competitive pressure.. the environment rubs into you. well, that's why we are in KS forum now?
Totally agree with dyh. When my DD was in K1/2, I didn't even bother to coach her and left all the spelling and 听写 to my parents when my DD was being looked after by them. Didn't even bother much when she sat for her SA1 in Pri 1 but then, after 6 mths in PH.... Hah! I've transformed to be so kiasu that my parents cannot take it! But it was a little late, cos SA1 results pulled my DD down eventhough she got 96 all subjects for SA2. :stupid:markfch:
Actually I would say PH parents can hardly relax...given the competitiveness of the kids and pressure from the principal to PERFORM
Who says parents cannot relax  ? From P1 to P2 I intend to relax. I'll just teach ds whatever I feel like teaching him under the sun, regardless of the syllabi. Will only follow the syllabi from P2 onwards cos by then got streaming mah. -

Actually I'm also kiasu to a certain extent, especially when my buddy told me his dd was asked to transfer out of a GEP sch during term 1 of P1 cos she can't cope with the pace . This after my buddy shifted house then PV to ensure that his dd got a place there.

So I try my best to ensure that the same horrible thing don't happen to ds. But when I heard that there is no streaming at end-P1, it sort of relieved me and allowed me to take my foot off the accelerator. I think once you take away the 'incentives' of ranking & streaming, P1 can actually be quite enjoyable & not too stressful (provided of course ds results don't belong to the bottom kind). -

  next year P4? teamwork? how come yours can skip P3....
Mine was also transfered in P2 (mid year), but she will be in P4 (Teamwork) next year.IJJ:

yes, sounds improvement a lot. actually she was transferred from other school in last term, but then CH2 no vacancy...
Which school was yours transfered from?
mine was transfered from chongfu...but CL still weak.
Haha....mine was transfered in mid year 2009 when she was in her P2. Then this year P3, so next year P4. I should have been clearer in my msg. ChongFu is a very good school too. I hope the transistion has been smooth. So yours like it here? Mine...loves PHPPS.

Did not even choose PH as our first choice (phase 2B) during school registration for fear of the HCL and very 'chim' syllabus. Then went one big round, still back in PH. Since preschool years, mine did not have 'academic' enrichment classes. I decided not to follow the 'flow'. Now...I am in it.

The only thing I am glad with (myself) is that besides CL, so far, I have not started her on any tuition. In fact for CL, I have terminated after this Dec. 100% ko-song. No more out-sourced tuition classes. Cannot stand her tutor complaining about her that she was not paying attention during the sessions. Could be too exhausted after school. Got to 'home-tutor' her myself next year.
HappyMama, you are still not too late. Not late at all. P1 to P2 is not banded. Work hard next year @ P2. Alot can be done.

does no streaming means no ranking ? mu guess is that you will still be kan-cheong without the streaming because you always want to ensure your ds is streamed \"correctly\"...
got force-transfer at P1 because cannot cope ? which school ? may be you were not told 100% of the reason behind it ? .... just guessing -
Oops! My DD is going P3 next year. Sorry if I wasn't so clear in my message. Yup, I didn't focus on enrichment when she was K1/2 too... but now, I'm all out for it! Haha!! Yes, agree that it is not too late, cos she did reasonably well for P2 and will be going Responsibility 8 next year. I'm trying my best to push her for better grades next year. But PH is really very competitive and the kids are really smart, esp the top class kids...

Oh dear, this is bad... How can the school do that? :x By the way, all the best to your DS for his P1 next year.

Ooi vk2010, thought your ds graduated from PSLE oredi then you disappeared. . Somehow I felt that a heavy burden was removed from my shoulder when they did away with P1 to P2 streaming leh. Now can just focus ds on learning whatever he is interested in w/o having an eye on the exams. At least for P1.

My buddy's dd just done her PSLE this yr so that case happened 6 yrs ago. In the end the VP gave her one more term to buck up or ship out. Fortunately she managed to slog thru the 6 yrs there, though my friend mentioned that her PSLE results were very average. He still regretted the fact that they were totally hands-off academically during their dd's pre-sch years. -

Good foundation is important. Age 3 to 6 are critical years as children learn fast during this period. So it is good to feed them with as much knowledge as possible while they are in pre-school.
