i stay along Punggol Road too! haha
RGS reporting time on friday is 8:20am, not 7:20am, so my daughter can leave home at 7:00am on friday if she takes MRT to RGS.Shanghaied:
We live in Snegkang (along Punggol Road). I have just arranged with a bus operator to pick up my DD at 6.05 p.m. The bus will reach school at 6.50. PM me if you like or leave a message here and I'll PM you the operator's telephone number. No guarantee for places, though.
fromnuaa:
i stay at sengkang, so only NEL can be used... i think my daughter must leave home at 6:10am.
Which MRT is nearest to you? My daughter took the MRT from Queenstown to Redhilll (1 stop), then changed to bus 132. She left home at about 6.40-6.45 am and was able to reach school on time. -
my home is quite near to compassvale LRT, haha
taking bus 190 at dhoby ghaut mrt has some issues:
1. if it is raining day, umbrella is needed.
2. need cross the road to catch bus
3. it takes 4 minutes to arrive the bus stop
which bus you take to compass point? why not LRT?fatal-illuxions:
HI FRIEND!! i stay at sengkang too.fromnuaa:
thanks!
how about taking bus 190 at clarke quay mrt? because it takes 2 minutes only from dhoby ghaut mrt to clarke quay mrt and clarke quay is small mrt station and no so crowd... btw, i stay at sengkang.
What i've said previously are all from personal experience of what i've been doing since sec1.
HAHA, the thing is as you grow older, you no longer chiong hw before lesson starts, you chiong DURING the lessons itself. but that's besides the point.
it actually takes 4 minutes to clarke quay, i shall check again on wed when i go to work.
SO. to answer your question.
There is totally NO POINT in going to clarke quay station to take the bus. (assuming you're right about the timing) - it takes two minutes to clarke quay from dhoby by mrt, but it takes about <10min to dhoby from clarke quay by mrt.
My advice is not to do what you've wrote. because when you're at clarke quay, you've probably missed the previous bus, by waiting for another bus you'll have additional waiting and travelling time on top of your original travelling time.
Dont worry, your child will definitely get a seat at dhoby, unless it is a single carriage bus, or REALLY too big a crowd. even so, the bus will be packed like sardine most of the time at the orchard station, so i really dont see the point in going to clarke quay for the bus.
but that's only my suggestion. Try out whichever timings you like for this coming week and judge for yourself
I stay near compassvale LRT. So i usually will try to leave house by 6, because of the waiting time for the bus/LRT. However, i'll either oversleep or take too long to prepare, so the latest i MUST leave house is about 6.15, and rush so that i can catch the 6.20+ bus to Compass. And then i'll take the latest train, about 6.40 to dhoby. Reach dhoby will be about 7, then take 7.10 bus to school, reach about 7.20.
This was my sec4's morning schedule, used to reach school at about 6.40+ in sec1, but came to realise it's pretty useless coz i'll just go sch and sleep, might as well sleep more at home. xD
Happy school reopening. Your child must be really excited hehe. Orientation is always super fun
oh. AND please tell me what house your child is in. she will know tmr.(or technically today).
I was a house comm member so im pretty curious haha
HAVE FUN! xD -
yes, at clarke quay mrt station, no need worry raining day and crossing road, and the bus stop is near to the station exit.
but i am not sure how long time to reach RGS from larke quay by taking bus 190...fatal-illuxions:
sometimes, 20min is more than enough. It is still time anyway hehe.fromnuaa:
20 minutes (7:05am - 7:25am) is not enough for those undone homework, right?
However, coz there'll be morning assemblies EVERY SINGLE DAY, you'll have to make your way down to the parade square by 7.25, so the 20min is abit screwed -.-.
FYI part one - two bells in the morning.
First bell at 7.20, indicates that assembly is starting, better leave classroom now.
Second bell at 7.25, national anthem starts right after this bell.
FYI part two - the good news about clarke quay station is that the bus stop to school is right 'above' the station. Meaning if you come out from the correct exit (the central one), just keep going up, you'll see the bus stop right in front.
I think you should try the clarke quay route out and see which one you'll prefer. Because honestly, i hate walking the dhoby route coz it's tiring to always rush for the bus.
Jiayou.

haha. My mom insisted. The bus stop is right downstairs my house. The one which leads to the expressway, along punggol road.my home is quite near to compassvale LRT, haha
taking bus 190 at dhoby ghaut mrt has some issues:
1. if it is raining day, umbrella is needed.
2. need cross the road to catch bus
3. it takes 4 minutes to arrive the bus stop
which bus you take to compass point? why not LRT?
1. there's no need to cross the road.
2. there are 4 buses i can take. 83, 965, 161 to compass. 27 to buangkok.
3. i only take LRT when i need to reach school super early (abt 6.30), coz the timing is alot more consistent.
About the raining issue, PLEASE PLEASE bring an umbrella no matter what. Because it's terrible if it rains when you're going home. You can always 'air dry' your umbrella in school if it rains in the morning, dont worry, it's a too common sight in RGS.
Another suggestion for you. If it rains too heavily and your child is too lazy and sian to walk in the rain to the opp bus stop.
Normally i'll take 105 to serangoon and change to either 82 or mrt home. but it takes about 1hr++.
Another way is to take whichever bus from school to RTC, change to another bus (i forgot the number, can check at the bus stop) to bishan, then change mrt here and there back home. it's just troublesome.
Or you can wait for the rain to stop and do homework in school
fromnuaa:
5 stops from clarke quay to dhoby, total 11 stops to RGS.yes, at clarke quay mrt station, no need worry raining day and crossing road, and the bus stop is near to the station exit.
but i am not sure how long time to reach RGS from larke quay by taking bus 190...
Timing i'd say depends on the traffic.
i dont really know the exact timing coz i never tried taking from clarke quay early in the morning.
I'm being very skeptical here k.
4min to walk up to bus stop from dhoby.
It's about the same as 2min mrt from dhoby to clarke quay, then MAYBE another 2min to walk up to bus stop + the bus may have left the clarke quay bus stop already. so yeah.... ><....
I think you should try it out during the first week coz you dont get booked for being late
<< wrong example here, but yeah, trying out is more convincing.
Hope this helps. heh.

Since 2 years ago, there is no more GEP and non-GEP class. Everyone in RGS goes through the same Raffles Programme which is a school based gifted programme. I think this is a good move, IMHO, to help curtail elitism.do you have any idea about RGS so-called gep and non-gep class? i heard that class 109(or 110)-113 are gep classes.
