The more I read the posts, the more I ask myself : is my decision to send Ds to rv a correct one? Should I have sent him to catholic high instead ? Will he able to cope?

Does joining sports cca help in scholarships application ? I thought CCas leadership exposure more relevant ?

And for Malay lessons, will the lessons be conducted outside normal sch hrs?
whether it is sports/performing arts/UG...the student has to do well (good achievement) and if possible hold leadership positions. u will seldom come across a cca leader who is lacking in achievements in the cca. scholarships will need outstanding contributions in cip too especially ocip.

if i am not wrong, all schools have to do conversational malay.

Is not easy to b rv students these days. Everyweek they hv to stay back at least 2 days for CCA, 1 day for IDP, 1 day for ORACY. Now that the sch is making malay as a compulsory 3rd lang, seems like they will hv long day everyday. With tons of homework and projects to do, students hardly hv time to relax. Planning for project meeting is also a problem esp if their project mates hv tuition on weekend.

Dun make it sounds so scary... With proper planning and time management, many students survive through. Its good to start training early at year 1 and 2. When they go senior high, they would find PW a breeze. They would adapt to senior high life easier. šŸ˜„ å…ˆč‹¦åŽē”œ

It is not easy to be students these days rather than RV students. Many schools are having 3 CCA days now. Tonnes of homework, projects and hardly have time to relax is the same regardless which school they go to.
Like Rosecy mentioned, Malay is compulsary for other schools as well.
I should say what they do is no different from other schools.

Dun think too much about the past. I am sure your dd can cope well. Its a matter of good planning, time management , get your priority right and get use. My dd took about 3 to 6 months to get use to the busy schedule. After some time, they learn to plan and prioritise and they see would see lights!

Octopusmum, that's right. I like what Daisyt mentioned earlier. You won't know where their talent lies and what their capability are until they try it.
If the whole cohort (or rather so many cohort) can cope, I don't see why your son can't ? Being too protective may not be the best for our children.

You see a happy and lively lot of students in RV don't you ? There was this boy who came up to us and talk to us during open house. He said he is very proud to be in RV and he is very happy. RV is his second home, he looks forward to coming to school every morning. You can see it in his eyes. He was in year 3 then.
Daisyt, Rosecy and my dd are all coping well and you see we are happy mum.
So don't worry too much and move on ! 加油!

Now in RV, having tea reception with the kids. No speeches or presentation though. The students are in high spirit. They say the camp is fun. šŸ˜‰

yup...time management and self-discipline are very important in sec/jc/uni. think we parents cant have the 'primary sch' mentality. our children have to deal with many more subjects in sec sch. cca is not so critical in pri sch but in sec sch it is a big part of their holistic education. we can help to guide n encourage them on the right path n work together with the school to help our children to grow šŸ™‚
