statement 1. Harry= domi+289
statement 2. Harry/2= domi-169
statement 1- statement 2 ie
(Harry - Harry/2 )= (domi-domi) + (289 - -169)
1/2 Harry = 458
Harry = 916
Statement 1 - 916 = domi + 289
therefore 916 - 289 = domi
627 = domi
I am not sure about the model -
Do you have an answer for it? I have tried to work out and the answer is 611.

Harry Had 289 more stamps than Dominic.
When Dominic gave away 161 of his stamps, he had half of what Harry had.
How many stamps did Dominic have at the beginning?
Pls help solving it using model.
Thanks!
Hi,
H [----------][----------]
D [----------][161]<289>
1 u --> 161 + 289 = 450
450 + 161 = 611
Dominic had 611 stamps at the beginning. -

Harry = 900
Statement 1 - 900 = domi + 289
therefore 900- 289 = domi
611 = domi

Hi
Anne and Bobby had a total of $309. After Anne spent $48 and Bobby saved $15, Anne has 2 times as much as Bobby. How much did Anne and Bobby have at first?
One way to look at this question.
The amount Anne and Bobby left in the end is due to two transactions.
1) Anne spent $48 , which is a outflow
2) Bobby saved $15, which is an inflow.
Therefore, the original amount is reduced by (48-15) which is 33.
The final amount is (309-33) which is 276.
3 units ----276
1 unit -----92
At first
Anne ------ ( 2*92)+48 -----232
Bobby -----92 -15 -----77
Best wishes -
Thanks for your help, Tianzhu!!!
I thought "saved" is considered outflow (as in out of the "what you have on hand" to a piggy bank or something)
I don’t have the answer, have to wait for the teacher to return paper. Thanks!
