E3:
I really felt very happy to read what you just wrote E3
Whatever it is, markfch, I believe your ds will be fine. Not many kids can write down a list of acronyms so flawlessly for the names for the periods. That's a good indication that he is pretty meticulous.
. From my observation ds language skills are not too bad, though maths remains his strongest subject by far. One of his big areas for improvement will be that sometimes he's not detail enough in his answers for eng comprehension passages.
Eg if qn asks ' how did Alex behave towards his brother?' DS will reply 'Alex was well behaved towards his brother.' But I thought a more specific ans will be 'Alex was kind and helpful towards his brother.' Is there any effective method I should use to teach him this? Now I just nagged at him repeatedly until I also find myself very irritating. -

DS can sit still and do his work independently since k2 w/o much problem. DW & I think that this was due to the training he had playing piano which requires a lot of patience. Only problem is that when he reads anything interesting he must to share it die-die with everyone in the house immediately. That of course takes a lot of time because he can be very imaginative  . But I've taken E3's advice on board and 'patronise' him as much as I can. When my boy was in P1, I spent a great deal of time building up his foundation...it gets more difficult every year. It was very tough then...he can't sit still, followed me wherever I go, even answering a phone call. He had no sense of security. At P2, he was slightly better...able to sit down instead of following me but was dreaming. At P3, he finished the work I set for him but lots of careless mistakes. Boys really need time to mature and I'm still waiting and waiting for that day.

He learnt to keep quiet in school/class but yaks the moment he steps into the house. Can you believe he can receive 'Model Student' badge ? really can faint !!! In school, he has 'talk suppressant medicine' but at home he takes 'talk expectorant'

but now has CL banding at P2 hor....
Do you know how the school do the chinese banding? From what I know some classes have moxie, some don't have.
Lucky you...my son was streamed from P1 to P2 back then. He was in Grace 1 and streamed to Love 2. Most of his classmates from same kindy went to Charity 2/Faith 2...amazing :shock:janet_lee88:

Logically I think that it should only be HYPY as sch haven't taught 汉字 yet. You know what? I'm going to refrain from telling ds this & let him write both  . Hopefully the scolding he'll get from CL teacher will 'encourage' him to be more attentive in class.
Somehow I'm so glad there's no streaming from P1 to P2, seeing that ds still has that typical bo-chap attitude of his. -

One way I taught my dd was to ask the question back at her as if we are having a normal conversation. They speak differently from how they write sometimes. In your case, if your son answered you back as \"Alex was well behaved towards his brother.\", you can ask him whether he thinks the person listening to his reply will know (or understand) about Alex's behaviour by the phrase \"well behaved\"?\" \"What other ways can you say (or write) instead of using 'well behaved'?\" He might realise that his answer might be too vague and derived the \"kind and helpful\" adjectives to describe Alex's behaviour. Make it such that he was the one who came out with the final answer, so the next time he does a similar question, he will think a little more in-depth. Practice makes perfect. Give him a high-5 if he is able to derive a better answer. -

For P2 no top 4 classes, so they are banded during CL. Maybe some classes will have moxie and some don't have.
what!!!! only top 4 classes have moxie.....i tot the same across the board...php:

Oh because if I recall correctly, you mentioned your DD was from Peace 2. Only kids from Charity to Hope 2 had Moxie...
FYI, the moxie list has been given out.
Yar ho, dis year onwards no top classes. I managed to dig out my gal's P2 spelling list (like cabbage already) and it tallies with this year's P2 list.
My elder dd has not received her spelling list though, ummm, wonder why?? :? -

It is obviously, E3 is definitely a good home teacher of her children. I'm really envy your any comments. i feel powerless to teach my dd by myself. btw, many thanks for your dd's kindly help, my dd finished to find that pile of 'ss work book'. -
I searched my files for P3 默写…fortunately still in my hard disk.
There are 默写 for 早睡早起,不要乱丢垃圾,搭地铁,共用雨伞,学游泳.
