That is a lot of emphasis on Chinese ! Juz to share, my colleague graduated fr rv many yrs ago . She said she had a hard time doing Chinese and now, she hardly uses the language , she said she would not want her girl to go thru the same thing. Instead she wants her girl to be Gd in English
Oh no..you will be at the opposite side of the pendulum. It is now that the centre of power is starting to shift to the east. You see America and England are in a mess. The mess stems from something more fundamental. Fundamentally wrong. This is then coupled with fast arising chinese.
Chinese is really becoming more and more useful. You can even make money without knowing any English nowaday. and speaking an ascent English may not be considered cool in some not too distant future. You can't even make enough money with that so how can it be cool? I understand it is true in the last 100-200 years but we are at the juncture of history of change now. -

yup...u r very right. china and maybe even india r going to be a major world economic power in the near future. chinese language may become the most frequently used language. the chinese r smart. they sent language teachers to many western countries to teach for free. many westerners r learning chinese in order to tap into the vast china market. big business opportunities there as china is opening up to the world.

u will be surprised at the spending power of the chinese nowadays. an ex-colleague just told me her experience in milan. within minutes of opening, almost everything on the shelves of the chanel boutique r cleared by a group of chinese tourists! she was shocked!
in the latest PISA report, shanghai kids r the best educated in the world. if we dont buck up...we r gonna lose out. just look at those prc scholars, they just need 1-2 years to brush up their english n they will outshine the locals. imagine just 1% of their population r able to do that....we r going to lose our competitive edge very very soon. -

How is this result compare to Nanyang Girl's, HCI and Dunman High? I know Nanyang has already attained 68% distinction in 2009, but this year I don't know.sall:

This one will be something but none of you have mentioned. And is something that I admire of RV that cannot be found in any other top schools. Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor Awards. Since 2000, RV has been the school with the most short listed inventions-every year except one year. Maths Oympiah not so useful one lah....is a good general guide of where you stand but not more than a handful will ever become true mathematicians.

Dd and class are very excited about tmrw carnival. Lessons would end at 10.30 today so that each class can have time to do up their booth. Hope we all can enjoy tmrw carnival
