Hi, reporting as mum of a p1-sincere boy from Rosyth. Anyone w kids in same class? My son loves his form teacher a lot!

Mangai, i got in thru being a pv in Rosyth n stay 1-2pm from sch. u may wish to see http://www.rosyth.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=78756

The sch will open pv registration for 2007 kids soon. Those kids born before, registration is closed already. According to last yr's stats, seem that 30/140 so less than 25% chance to b selected as pv.

I heard that parents who got in as pv r generally high caliber- doctors, lawyers, directors, accountants, managers, etc. I was a manager myself whilst my hubby is also a manager. A friend who applied 2x (for both her 1st n 2nd kids) was rejected twice as she is a full time mum while hubby is not a mgr.
But before u start accusing the sch any being elitist, sometimes, it's part of nature selection of being in Singapore. Try to beef up your application form as phonecalls n visits to sch won't help at all.

Another way to get into Rosyth is thru grass root volunteer. It's an easier route. [/b]

Hi Tarzen_gal, my gal is in P1 Sincere too.

My hubby is also a volunteer and we get into the Rosyth under within 1km.

Mangai, I agree with Tarzen_gal, you should try grassroot volunteer instead of PV as the chance is higher. Roysth only accept a limit of PV which alot of parents are registering on it. All the best to you. Hope you manage to get it.

But the question here is Mangai lives in Punngol, a different GRC from Rosyth. Does it qualify him/her priority to register in Rosyth under the grassroots route?

Rosyth is under Ang Mo Kio GRC and Punggol is under Punggol-Pasir Ris GRC which will not give her the priority to register Rosyth.

Now her only choice is to get PV but this does not guarantee coz there are years that under Phrase 2B with 2km has to go for balloting.

Hopefully she will get it but it is good to have 2nd option in mind 1st so you can compare the chances on it.

In Punggol, Mee Toh is also a very good school.

To get into phase 2b in Rosyth, can either b a Rosyth sch pv or b recognize as an active Grassroot.

I know of pv who stay in punggol, tampines n sengkang, out of 2km. I guess the key is to get accepted. Where the pv stay may not b so strongly taken into consideration (ie if compare a dad is director of a stat board but stay in novena against another dad who is a technician staying just the block beside the sch).

But if one gets rejected as a pv (bec rejection rate is v high), the other route is via Grassroot.

I m not sure abt Grassroot track but Rosyth is in amk grc so to b safe, volunteer w PM 🙂
              http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/listing-by-grc/

I don't know of anyone who is Grassroot of other grc so can't comment there.

For pv n Grassroot distant from sch will only b impt if there r more pp than seats for that space. Eg- if there's 50seats for phase 2b but 30 Grassroot n 30pv, those staying within 1km will get accepted 1st (assuming that fills 40seats). Left 10seats so remaining 20 pv/ grassroot to ballot.

Personally if I m staying in punggol, there r other good sch such as Nan Qiao and Mei Toh. Even holy innocent and plmgs r good n easier to apply for pv.

Do know that to b a pv, got to fill up form, wait, get called for interview (n pass that interview) n willing to \"work\" at least 80hours, over 2years.

My 3 friends serve 40hr in plmgs, Mei Toh and holy innocent n all their kids got in.
another friend who applied to Rosyth for pv (stay in punggol), got called for interview but bec she is a big 4 accountant, can't commit time, she was rejected. Then she just paid $500 to join hui guan for nan qiao n got her twins in without need to give any time.

But I hv grown to live Rosyth myself after doing pv for so long. They gv us parents 3days orientation unlike other sch that hv 1 or 2 days only.

Hi, first of all I would like to thank Tarzen_girl, chesfel, and ksmummy for your great advice. You all must be proud parents of Rosythians.

I’m a father of two girls myself. Actually, I don’t mind put in 40 ~ 80 hours over 2 years if there’s some certainty that I could first get selected as a PV, then in Phase 2B. But of course nothing is for sure since Rosyth’s PV selection is so stringent.

If I remember correctly, there are parents who say that PV selection is rest solely on Principal’s hand? Is this true for Rosyth?

I totally agree with Tarzen-girl that the key is to first get selected as PV. If I look at past Rosyth’s past P1 registration history, there is so far no balloting required over 2km in Phase 2B except twice in a few years back. In other words, if one is selected as a PV, it’s pretty much sure that a child can get into the school. Am I right?

I’m a manager in a major US logistics company. In this case, I should better beef up my PV application to increase the chances huh?

                  Cheers!

I’m not sure how pv is selected but given abt 1/3 rejected, there will b a few levels (I m guessing- 1. Admin staff look thru n throw out those whose parents r not "who’s who" n hv no degree, 2. Pass list to vp or p to select who to interview. 3. Interview round n throw put those who can’t commit time 4. Put their names in n call them to serve 5. When pv kids r in K2, around may, to see their hours n if they clock sufficient, gv them pv letter to register in phase 2b (those who don’t hv minimal hr, hv to do mad rush to clock somehow or no letter for them)

Other than print n send in form, can include a letter abt yourself n wife on some special skills u hv n can serve the sch w)

Actually if I hv a gal, I’d prefer to send to all girls sch. Girls thrive more in classes without boys n learn faster. Esp in lower levels where boys r noisy, disruptive n talk louder, teachers attention tend to b divert to boys. If all girls, teacher hv time to teach more n call the girls to answer questions.

My girl is in P1 Diligent. Got this magazine subscription form for ‘好朋友’. Is it mandatory to subscribe? Is it beneficial?
