      MMM:
Not trying to be nasty or mean here.

But last year, my sil's filippino maid told her that she need to rush home because her husband met with an accident and she was sobbing profusely, etc... They took pity on her and arrange for her to go and even giving her extra monies. The kids felt sad for her too.

But they later realised from another maid that she was trying to think of ideas on how to go back earlier and this was the trick she used. For all the goodwill that they have given and done for her, I think it's not fair to my sil's family.

I am not saying that your maid's case is not genuine. But after seeing it for myself, I really wonder at times.
There have so many cases of these maids lying about 'accidents' at home and the urgency to go home early. This has really made employers a bit cold-hearted the way the maids resort to tricks and take advantage of employers' goodwill. It's hard to tell whether the maid is telling a lie or not.

I hate to think that she is lying to me 😞

But then, if it is true that her dad is in critical condition, how can I deny her the last look?

        Sigh....

I know how you feel. Hope your maid is not lying to you and taking advantage of your good will.

With the Indon maids' salary up to $450 now, very soon you will see Myanmar maids pay also rise...with the market value of maids going up, it's no wonder their work attitude is going down! Cos they know they are in demand and think they are indispensable.

After reading abt the news on CNA last nite, I told DH that I may not want to have FT maid after my current myanmar maid's contract ends. I rather use this money to get PT help, minus the mental stress.

Not worth it to get a FTmaid in Spore, got to pay govt levy, pay maid high salary but get poor quality service and bad attitude, and no support groups for employers bullied by errant maids here. I think I'd be happier maidless. 😛

That's the prob...maids feel they are indispensable. We hire maids to help us...of course they are of help, why else would they be hired. But they have a lousy attitude and bully employers BECAUSE our MINISTRY OF MANPOWER sides the maids.

I think the increase in salary for the indo maids is insane. The quality of new maids have not gone up but the salaries keep increasing. This is unfair to us employers!

Why is there such a HUGE increase ? The quality hasn't gone up but their pay has. Even hubby's pay doesn't increase as fast as maids. I pity women who are working...huge % has gone to maintaining a maid...excluding food and accomodation and ATTITUDE.

I also impressed by the increase..when our salaries increase 20%. For once, I thank my ex-maid for terminating her contract early. else I have to bear these increased cost.

Practically, if maids can come TRAINED to cook, to clean PROPERLY and look after kids (whatever they are supposed to cover), I think pp won't mind paying $450. It's when we have to train them in English/Chinese, in cooking, in cleaning....then I wonder how come they are so expensive. Of course, HK and TW would want SG trained maids - they are packaged already mah....crap talk.

The new salary increment is only for new maid?

What if our existing maids ask for this new pay?
Are we obliged to increase her pay?

yah, salary increment will apply for new maid. For existing one, I think it depends on the negotiations between employer and employee. Though employer should remember the vagaries involved in getting a new unknown (vs an already known one), and the agent fees; and the employee should remember that there is this wonderful thing called agent fee.

Newspaper says that agent fees will not be raised in tandem...me wonder how long can those local agencies (ie in Indo) refrain from cashing in.

I wonder if those maids with contracts midway thru will 'keng' their way out and then get new increased pay when they start with another employer... :?

                        Hello…

Ha…Ridiculous email from an agency which i just received.

According to MOM, from today onwards, all nationality maids salary will be $450 with one off day, $480 with no off day…

As for ex Singapore, $500 with one off day, $550 with no off day…

Agency fees will be increased too!

                        Getting a maid now is…MAD!!
