Your first choice for 2011 Secondary School...

Wow, looking at your impressive score...I'm so envious as a parent that you have a wide selection of premium sec schools to attend. I sure hope my son will mature and do well in P6.
My score is a little sandwiched for IP schools. I only can opt for DHS or NJC.
I never considered RGS. LOL. It wasn't even on my list. :lol:livewith_vanilla:
with such a score you can try appealling to rgs! better education!
I don't really consider RGS or NYGH as premium sec schls.I came to realise that being in top girls schl or co-ed schls might not always be the best for me, I find that Cedar Girls is all-rounded, suitable for me.Each school has its own merits and suits different people.
I wish your son all the best ! -
youโre the 2nd person I came across with T-score 259+2 chosen Cedar as 1st choice, she told me ๆๅฎๅไธๅฎณๆ 'Oโ level

jysh:
Not quite right to say going to RGS means \"better\" education. Yes RGS is a great school with many talented individuals but it is not a \"definite\" that it provides \"better education\". What is \"better\" is subjective just as \"one man's meat is another man's poison\"...
with such a score you can try appealling to rgs! better education!livewith_vanilla:
259+2 Cedar Girls. ^^
4A*
Cedar's standard is not that bad too... -

Hey there,im currently studying in temasek secondary sec 4na.My school's academic result for N levels are great. If you feel that you are weak and you need more time to prepare for your O's,i will recommend you to join my school. The people there are friendly and my school is well disciplined. If you were to join next year,we might actually meet because i am going sec 5 next year in my school -
May I suggest something? Is it possible to list all the schools according to their area such as North, South, West, East? I think it will benefit those who has no idea where the schools are located at, such as, ME.
Need to know which are the better schools in the north area too. TIA. -

Tks Tinkerbelle & Pen88n... I manage to obtain a copy of MOE's information booklet - 'Choosing Your Sec School - for Admission to Sec 1 in 2011' and it was stated that the aggregate range is based on the 2009 PSLE pupils posted to 2010 Sec 1, thus have a few queries :
1) since it's only a guide, then what is the 'actual' COP for this year? Where can I get this info?
2) SJI is going IP in 2013, would the COP be higher then?
3) Read the SJI's thread but was unable to find out much about the school... appreciate some feedback on SJI? Curriculum? Culture? Good choice? etc...
Apologies if I'm on the wrong thread... kindly guide me onto the right path... Tks a mil!!! -

I'll try to answer your questions based on my understanding and my personal opinion only. Others who may not agree please don't :heresmyfish: me.....
The Admission to Sec 1 in 2011 book is produced for the batch of Sec 1 in 2011 based on the COP of the past batch in 2010. Thus, it is not \"accurate\" as of that year - it is only a guide. Depending on that year's PSLE T-score overall performance, it will change. Similarly, a school may also get more \"popular\" and the COP will go up. You will not know the actual COP until after the S1 Posting because it is really depending on the applicant's and based on the applicants performance - you can call the school by then to find out (that's why there is the appeal process).
As to whether SJI's COP will go up, like what I said, depends on the cohort. This year the newly announced IP schools does seems to have higher COP - but again, it could also be due to cohort as well. Considering that SJI will have both IP and O Level track, I would guess that there will be separate COP (like ACSI) for these 2 tracks and of course, the IP track in 2013 will have higher COP (but your DS is in 2012 so not IP yet).
Last question I really can't answer as I have no experience with the school. Do you want to try posting your query in the SJI Sec Sch parents networking thread and they may be able to give you a better perspective? -

The book serves as a guide only. Having said that, it is observed that the cut off point remains rather consistent from year to year. (Comparing to 10 years ago could have a bigger difference). It fluctuates by one or two points, plus or minus.
If you check it on MOE website, you can see the COP for the last 4 years, but you have to click it year by year, tedious, but it gives you a good feel what the situation is like -

pen88n and verykiasu2010 has covered your first 2 questions very well.
My friend's DS in currently in SJI sec 3. I don't know enough about the sch to comment about its curriculum but feedback from my friend's DS has been very positive. He really enjoys the sch culture and the boys are well-behaved and confident. My friend has commented that the teachers are very committed and supportive of the students. Back in Sec 1 when her DS was still adapting to the new sch and sec sch life, he struggled with his Higher MT but the teacher encouraged him not to give up, and now he's still doing his Higher MT (taking his O' levels for HMTL this Year) and taking triple science. My friend strongly feels that her DS would not have come this far without the sch & the teachers' support. She's a strong advocate for SJI and always recommends SJI to our circle of friends...Too bad I don't have a son.. -
Thank you all... Sorry, still abit :? , apart from the cohort factor, does that mean it's probably easier for our DS to get into SJI in 2012 (since IP only starts in 2013)? Or should he try DSA (heard it's time consuming process)? How does IP works, would DS still stand a chance to go onto the IP track in Sec 2 when they starts their IP in 2013? Yeah... heard some positive feedback from his teachers. They think the school culture (whatever that is) suits our DS perfectly.
So sorry, DS is the first in the family to experience this new programme, all his cousins are either older or younger, no one is able to advice or share experience with. Currently, DS is not serious with his PSLE preparationreally hope that he can 'wake up' soon... Since he doesn't attend any tuition class, probably have to plan for 1 month no-pay-leave in Sept to help him liao. Am not asking for much, just good enough to get into SJI.

Chung Cheng (Main) will be my first choice, should I not get into Dunman High. Cosโ many of my senior friends are there.
Cedar Girlsโ will be 2nd, as it is near my houseโฆ
