I use to read EVERY 小叮当 comic that is available! Haha...till my mum has to throw away one full box coz I read too much instead of study. I do remember those days some of it comes in traditional chinese. The current one in simplified? I need to go check it out at popular. Thanks.

倚天屠龙记? Hmm...will try that out. 🙂

The new ones are from China, all in simplified Chinese.

I still have all my old 小叮当 books 😉, but they are in traditional Chinese so I bought new ones for my kids. My girl loves these books.

Her new favourite is 甜甜私房猫 :

Great! Time to relive my old memories :p[/quote]The comics look so cute, i want to order. I like to ask a question on dangdang.com. Is it true they take 2 months to deliver the books?! So after my 1st order, i wait for 2 months, then everytime i order, there is a 2 mths waiting period...hmmm??!!

Thank u all for the advice, i m getting dizzy now! So many things to do. if i cant teach 45kuaidu to my 3 kids together, then i have to spend 1.5hrs (30mins each) a day just to teach them chinese only.

On chinese shows, i used to watch hk series alot like 倚天屠龙记 but in cantonese, tt's where i learn all my cantonese from . I have problem looking for chinese TV shows for my kids. The ch8 shows are junk nowadays, alot of kissing/bed scene! i know sat/sun morning there is doremon and some kids shows, my kids will walk away if they cant understand the conversation, most of the time, they are reading the eng subtitles 😞

A pc of \"good news\", my number #1 is joining the school Chinese Dance Club...does it help in knowing chinese better in anyway? hahahahha

Conversationally maybe at least. My no.3 is in Chinese Orchestra and has been for past 5 years. All the instructors are from various parts of northern China, so he has no problem understanding all the various accents.

I'm trying to search for 小叮当 (or 多啦A梦, as it is now called) at Popular. Will let you know if I have any luck.

Found this story book - 小男生杜歌飞 in a book store in Bras Basah (#03-07, can’t remember name of store). It is about a 7 yrs old boy starting Pri 1, his school encounters, friends and escapades.

I have been readng the stories aloud to DS after dinner and he loves the stories. He would ask me to read about 4 chapters in one-go (each Chapter is about 4 pgs).

The language used, vocabulary and themes explored are contemporary (unlike some story books from China which use ‘traditional’/‘localised’ vocabulary and sentence structures which make reading awkward due to frequent stops to explain such terms and meaning of sentences).

There is also hanyu pinyin. I know there are some parents who prefer books with no hanyu pinyin but I think this book makes good transition from 四五快读 as most of the words are found in 四五快读 and with hanyu pin yin to guide, I should think it makes good transition. As DS is still half way through book 4 of 四五快读, I decided to read aloud to him. Will ask him to try reading this book when he "graduates" from 四五快读.

I would definitely recommend this book for boys who are starting Pri 1 - helps them to prepare/look forward to formal school life. There is a girl equivalent - 小女生金贝贝.
