Can I ask how do all of you motivate your child to study? DS kept asking if he can go back to 'NURSERY' cos he doesn't want to study!! I've always had feedback that he is lazy and he doesn't put in effort to retain what is taught or done, and I do agree that he does his work just to get it out of the way, so that he can do other stuff like play. He has no interest in his work, and it is so frustrating when he doesn't put in effort at all.. Was doing maths today, and he just look at the numbers on the page, and anyhow fill in the blanks to tell me 'it's done!!'

I don ask that he scores high marks, but I want him to put in his best efforts. I tried talking, withholding privileges, nagging, timeouts etc, nothing has worked so far.. can you share how you cultivate that motivation in kids?? to him, study is just somethin he must do before mommy lets him play!! :?:

Heard about LEAD.com. But what was that actually? and don't know they got the Chinese Oral Section for practice.

Sama sama here. I observed that besides gaming, the only other 3 things that ds will do automatically w/o prompting (and actually look like he enjoys doing it) is piano practising, 好朋友 & Young Scientist mags. He can consume both mags at one go. For piano, he can practise on a particular song for the whole hr. I think it's got something to do with internal motivation. I have zilch expectation as far as music is concerned. Just enjoy it.

Unfortunately for the rest of the items, I've to keep prompting him before he's willing to start engine and do the work. I guess I should be grateful that at least he'll respond positively once I hit the 'nag' threshold and he can't stand it anymore :lol: . Like yours, he offers his fair share of carelessness. Luckily I tend to have ample supply of patience (or at least dw thinks so) so I haven't come close to vomiting blood yet.
