小白龙! I think I have one of the book, hmm...now I have to better organise the bookshelf, need another round of spring cleaning
Hi ksme
Sorry of my poor HYPY and it should be xiao bai long instead. This is the comics come with few short stories per book. The main characters are stories of 阿伦 and 小白龙. The contents are printed without HYPY and they do include the HYPY for certain difficult word at the bottom of the respective page.

Hi
Anyone has good 'poems/rhymes' Chinese book to recommend? My p2 gal learns them in her hcl and she loves memorizing them. She has china classmates and she told me they are v good, just 1 glance and they can remember the whole poem/rhyme! My p2 gal said for past weeks the china classmates hv been the 1st to recite to teacher n wholeclass. Guess what, this ks gal of mine has been memorizing inadvance at home, she wants to b the first to recite in class when her teacher start to teach the poems. I feel happy she takes initiative to do that.
Also I want to thank u'all for all tips n encouragement on teaching CL. I intro 魔法小公主莉莉 to my gals, they love this series n will ask to read together. My p2 can read the books, im so happy, thank u everyone here, n tamarind for the reco!
Talking Abt Chinese history, over cny, we watched 赤壁(did I get it right?), my p2 thinks it's v interesting. She made a comment y zhuge liang don't fight only 'talk', and gave herself the ans by saying he uses his brain to strategise while others use muscles to fight ha. So I asked if she wan use brain or muscles? After watching, I feel Chinese history can be interesting too! Kudos to your kids who read Abt Chinese history, so chim! If my kids do read Abt them, I'll b soooo happy

Hi Tanarind,
I have one qn. If we just get the child to read and when they come across words which they do not know and we explain to them the meaning. But if they do use than in their speech or compo, how are they going to improve their chinese??
I am at a dilemma on how to teach my son one boy chinese..
Can advise?
Tx
Hi Herbie,
When reading books, the child will not only learn new words and vocabulary, he will also learn to write good sentences. Teachers will give high marks to students who can use many words that are not taught in class before, provided they use it correctly in good sentences.
However, a child must read extensively in order to be very good in Chinese. That means reading at least one novel of more than 70000 words a week. Secondary school kids should read even more than this. If a child can read this number of Chinese books, then he will find Chinese very easy.Herbie:
You are doing great ! Jia you !hi tamarind, i just started to get my ds to read a passage of abt 300 wprds tomite. And he learnt some new words along the way.. feel so good.. We will try to do read every nite to brush up his mother tongue...

No worries Brenda. Thanks for sharing. I'll try to check out the books. Ds has been very busy with school work and CCA activities. No time to read the 笑猫日记 yet. Hope he will find some time to read soon.

Is ok. May be the coming March or June holiday will be the best timing. Same here. Now dd also has little time for reading since the supplementary class has started. -
