The good side of this is gov is willing to spend more to groom talent here. So students will have one more choice besides RI/RGS/HCI/NYGS/NUSH.

This is going to be another interesting school in the long run. Sit and watch.

        Going to become competitive soon.

          - is the school going to compete with NUSH?

Looks like they're competing and both are in clementi. Most IP schools are found in central and west so I wonder y they dont locate the SST in the east.

Not the same. SST is applied science.

SST is not an IP school. It's only four years, leading up to 'O' levels. Syllabus and focus quite different from NUSH so no competition there.

Went to their open house not impressive maybe due to new school no student works therefore nothing to see. We ever found a room with game that was previously exhibits in library.

I think that having a school specliasing in technology is good but my impression of the execution by SST is that it appears half effort so far. The are many ways that they can make it more attractive for students eyeing for a technology education.

SST looks like preparing students for a poly education but yet they say students can also carry on with A levels. For me, poly education is more specialised and A level a more general education. They need to be more focused and direct on what they are trying to do.

SST is a 4 year school and students sit for O levels. To make it more attractive, why can’t they make it direct to the poly without O levels. If NUS High can skip A levels, SST should be able to skip O levels. They can also make it a 6 year program with direct entry to NTU engineering and technology courses.

Many kids at pri 6 do not know what applied science is. Indeed many parents also don’t. Most decide on poly and technology education only when they are in sec 3 or 4. Perhaps SST should recruit students from sec 3 and train them towards poly or NTU. They could also try to get their students direct into 2nd year of poly.

I personally feel that there is a lot of improvement that SST could do to draw the better and right students there. There are many students who have very good O levels and opt for poly when they could have gone to most JCs. SST should try to target and identify these students early instead of trying to compete with NUS High, RI or HCI for students.

But there appears to be lots of students applying. They've already shortlisted the 1st batch.

I am sure there will be a lot of students applying. I only get the impression that the direction has not been clearly laid out. I feel they should be more bold as they are a specialised school instead of trying to be many things to many people. So far the specialised schools like sports school, SOTA and NUS High has been fairly unique and niche in their own way. I only hope that SST will do something in the future to distingush themselves as a specialised school.

So the general consensus here is that SST won't be a popular choice? :?

                        Anyone applied for it?
