The parents are not allowed to view the students during class. Not much interactions between parents and teachers except the 10 minute parent-teachers meeting once a year.

The administrator is rather snobbish, maybe because she has been there for a long time or the school is popular.

A letter will inform you that there are cases of hfmd in your class.

There is enrichment classes for speech n drama, Chinese public speaking etc.

Parents who want to know more about the kindy can pm me.

In terms of teachers, they don’t really give feedback probably there are too many kids to take care of. My friend’s girl came back with wrong Chinese name to practice writing with!

At K1, they are still learning to recognize numerals 1-10 and rote counting 1-20, understand about myself and my family. Heard from the parents that the standard has dropped drastically… For excursions, they will go to Ikea Tampines.

My daughter is a nursery student there. So far so good. She can identify sight words, phonetical sounds and can understand and speak chinese though we are not chinese. The principal from what I know is the same principal when my nephews were still there and that was 2004.

They don’t interact much but when you give them a note they will call you back to naswer your querries. I have done that quite a few times and the teacher calls me back.

For the K2 graduation concert, it seems that only 1 class was given the opportunity to perform an extra drama segment. Any one knows the reason for this unfair treatment?

From my knowledge, there is no shortage of good kindergartens in Sengkang, i.e. Montessori etc. St Annes however, is more of a bridge between those and the PAP kindergartens, I feel. So their standard, while much better than PAP is not comparable Montessori or other prestigious preschools.

Most church kindergartens do not have much funding, and the teachers themselves are not highly paid either. Hence, I feel it is unreasonable to expect too much from them. And it is unfair to say that the teachers ‘might not know every child’. I do of a few teachers from the kindergarten, and they all know the children they teach by name. They have a syllabus to follow, and as with all kindergartens, are vetted by MOE. I can’t say that all the teachers there are great either, but if you feedback to the school, they will acknowledge your concerns, and sometimes make changes accordingly.

As for excursions and class activities, I know they have organised zoo trips, MRT excursions, cookie-making classes, visits to snow city, river cruises and other activities before. An IKEA trip might be pretty fun to a 5 year old too.

And as far as I know, the school has an emphasis on imparting values to the children like love and compassion (at least for the time I knew them) which is more important to me than just syllabus and rote learning. That was what made my parents decide on sending us to a kindergarten with a religious affiliation instead.

                        Cheers.
