Does PH have Mathematical Olympiad extracurricular classes? My dd1 has joined such class before in Chongfu…I’m thinking to let my dd to join maths hub’s MOT programs, is it necessary or too earlier?

PH has such classes. But must be recommended by the teachers, not everyone gets to join. My elder boy was in this program (not by Mathshub) during his P5 n P6 years. Once a week for a few weeks (at least 10 weeks). Nominal fees paid.

I think this year Mathshub got themselves a job with PH. Saw them a couple of times in the vinicity.

If join Mathshub directly, the MA sch results must be > certain marks. They are selective of who they admit into the program. Think it is more for consideration whether the child can follow the lesson plan.

I am also thinking of enrolling my P4 boy in one of their hols program just to test water.

I read somewhere here that PH will select students good in maths (is it in P5?) and co-pay for one term of math olympiad course conducted by maths hub. Iirc, vk2010 mentioned in the maths olympiad thread before that this is insufficient, as other maths olympiad competitors are actually having training consistently on a weekly basis throughout the year.

I thought the most impt competitions are at P5/P6 level so not so sure whether starting formal training at P3 is too early. Is it possible to train her yourself for the moment or die-die must outsource? Nevertheless, if your dd is really keen & can afford the time (you did mention that she looked tired after TLL lessons), then go for it lor.

Most imptly, come back here and update us whether the course is good. We are all waiting patiently for your evaluation. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

DS came back with this greenish A4 paper called Reading Activity Card. In it, there’s headings for Narrative, Poetry, Info Rpt, Personal Recount, Instructions. And by the side, there is a col for stars awarded.

May I know what’s this all about? Actually I’m more interested to know whether everything will be taught/done in sch? In order words, can I assume that ds doesn’t need to google for answers, everything to be completed in the classroom?

Parents got to help with the research and all cos it's meant to be done at home. My advice is to get it over and done with as early as possible. In P1, her teacher would inform them on how many to do each week, and she would do that at first, then we realised some kids did more than what was told if they could afford the time.

php's daughter might have seen my dd's work cos her teacher (same FT at P1) borrowed hers to show Loy 1 how to go about doing it.

Dd was assigned the card during the June hols in P2, a few of her classmates and her completed the required number of items with quality to collect the max required number of stars since her teacher told them to do as many as they can. Out of sight, out of mind.

All the best. Good that your ds received it early.

If I am not mistaken, there is a MO competition organised by Raffles for P5 before Jun. If a child starts training only in P5, it might be insufficient preparation for the Raffles MO competition. This was what happened to my elder boy then. He was ranked 25% percentile.

Subsequently with more training, he performed better for the NMOS and ACS MO competition.

There are many MO training materials available now, targeting at lower pri levels.

Mathshub MO program seems to be quite vigorous. Many of their students attained very good results.

IMO dun wait for PH- really inadequate preparation.
