While gaining weight, it is important to eat healthily. Some of the meals above are not good to eat regularly. An example of what he had yesterday:
Upon waking up: 330ml milk, breakfast consisting of 2 boiled sausages, 1 butter bun (his fave) and 1 fried egg.
In school (morning tea): 1 packet of cream crackers & 1 butter bun.
Lunch: 1 large bowl (those Ikea type of large bowl) of fried rice.
Pre-tea: 2 medium plain cupcake & 330ml milk
Tea: Sandwich (1 slice of bread plus tuna/mayo)
Dinner: Beef kway teow soup (2 large bowls). Slurped up additional bowl of soup and some beef slices.
Supper: Potato chips (share with daddy) and milk 330ml
I'm still giving him the si sen & cordeceps powder but starting to wean off (only give on Mon, Wed, Fri now). -
Hi i have 3 kids ranging from 10-13 years old .
My children were considered tall amongst their age groups , and they have good BMI ( body mass index ) .
The main reason : they all exercise very regularly , like playing games on average for 5 - 7 times / week , with an average of 1-2 hours each time .
And they display good appetite with good home cook meals .
Every Meal consists of pork, chicken, fish, eggs, 2 types of vegetables and soup .
Breakfast : MILK , bread c/w eggs / pastries
Night snack : MILK -

So sorry I haven't logged on in a while. Call Dr Liu at 9003 8258. She's a qualified western doctor from Taiwan but she's only qualified to practise tcm in Singapore.Chirunner:
To stimulate appetite and growth, you can try TCM massage for kids. One of my former neighbours' son used to be skinny n after a while I noticed he had rounded out significantly so I asked my neightbour n she recommended a TCM. I brought 2 of my sons to this TCM n they rounded out too within half a year. In fact, they even became a bit too round so much so I had to reduce their intake. She's at 2 clinics at Yew Tee and Bt Gombak and does house calls too.
Hi,
can I have the contact as well? Thanks! -

Call Dr Liu at 9003 8258. I can't remember how much it costs, but what she does is she might do a few sessions and teach you how to do it at the same time so that you can do it yourself and save some money. Just hope your child will cooperate when you try to massage him/her! Bit painful and uncomfortable in the beginning but they grow to enjoy it subsequently.Chirunner:

Dear MrsWong, mind to share chinese herbs to stimulate appetite? tks
mrswongtuition:
My boy is considered skinny (takes after me) but he's very tall for his age. At one point, we faced the same problem - poor appetite and very fussy about food.
Now, his appetite is super huge and it's so scary to watch him eat (and only put on that little bit of extra weight - but at least he's not that skinny).
Things we did:
1. Gave him some chinese herbs to stimulate appetite (there are ready made powders but I preferred to choose the herbs ourselves and blend them at home - quality control). Since it's in powder form, we gave him 1/4 tsp daily, mixed into his milk. Ever since then, his appetite increased tremendously.
2. Stock up on their fave foods. My boy loves certain brands of biscuits/snacks and we simply made sure there's amply supply at home. He's allowed to snack as and when he likes as long as he's able to finish his proper meals.
3. Introduce different types of foods. I was very strict about his food before he turned 3yo (no junk food). Now that he's older, I allow certain 'junk foods'. His current fave - CHEESEBURGER. I will give it to him if he has been a good boy. Amazingly, he can finish 1 whole burger on his own after his dinner and milk.
4. Constantly offer him food. I realise that my boy won't eat when he is 'busy'. We have to keep offering him food. \"Do you want to eat watermelon?\" \"You want some biscuits?\"
5. Give him a hearty breakfast. I know for some kids that go to CCC, they have their breakfast there. For my boy, even when he was attending CCC, we made him have breakfast at home. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I want to make sure he really puts food into his mouth. My boy's current fave for breakfast - Peanut Butter with bread/crackers.
6. Gave him supplements to prevent him from failing sick (once they fall sick, they lose weight very fast and it's very hard to pile back the weight!)
More details about the supplements I give here: http://thelittleonesinmylife.blogspot.com
Hope this is useful
